Today’s conservatives know what they’re against. They’re anti-woke, anti-globalist, anti-big government. But what exactly do they stand for? The fact that this is a hard question to answer is a damning indictment of the modern Republican Party which has abjectly failed to articulate an affirmative alternative to the left’s vision. Ramaswamy calls on the conservative movement to articulate exactly what it stands for, or else warns of another illusory “red wave” in 2024.

Historia
Traveling across millennia, weaving the experiences and world views of cultures both extinct and extant, The Invention of Yesterday shows that the engine of history is not so much heroic (battles won), geographic (farmers thrive), or anthropogenic (humans change the planet) as it is narrative. Many thousands of years ago, when we existed only as countless small autonomous bands of hunter-gatherers widely distributed through the wilderness, we began inventing stories - to organize for survival, to find purpose and meaning, to explain the unfathomable.

If you enjoy learning about history, you will love this insightful book. The author does a fantastic job explaining history through the lens of narrative from a sky high perspective and mixes just enough humor along the way. Highly recommend

Any one of the great courses that is taught by Rufus J Fears is worth listening too. He is one of the most talented instructors I have ever listen to. He passed away a few years ago, so these classes archive the work of a genius.

A free society that despises manhood will not remain free. The American Founders believed that a republic depends on certain masculine virtues. Senator Josh Hawley thinks they were right. In a bold new book, he calls on American men to stand up and embrace their God-given responsibility as husbands, fathers, and citizens.

A Christian apologist’s guid to manhood
Revisado: 06-04-23
This was not quite the book I thought it was going to be. It constantly uses the Bible as the reason for his logic. The problem with using the Bible as a source of truth is that it is stuck using a circular reasoning. “This fact is true because the Bible told me so. How do you know what is said in the Bible is true? Because it’s the Bible written by God.”
If you can look past this, it’s a good book

Historia
We have a glut of text and trade books on American history. But what we don’t have is a compact, inexpensive, and authoritative book that will offer to American citizens a clear, informative, and inspiring narrative account of their own country. Such an account can shape and deepen their sense of the land they inhabit and, by making them understand that land’s roots, and share in its memories, equip them for the privileges and responsibilities of citizenship in American society.

Outstanding historiography.
Revisado: 01-24-23
I bought this book because of the Amazon algorithm suggested I’d like it, I looked at it a thought I’d give it a listen. I had no idea how much I’d enjoy this book. It was so good I had to find out who the author was, and it turns out the author is the history professor at Hillsdale college. (Which makes total sense).
The epilogue alone is worth a standing ovation!

Historia
“Almost all of the philosophical truths that I have come to know and understand I have learned from Aristotle,” says Mortimer J. Adler. This easy-to-listen-to exposition of Aristotle’s thoughts about nature, human actions, and the conduct of life confirms convictions that most of us hold, though we may not be fully aware of them. This is because Aristotle’s philosophical insights are grounded in the common experience we all possess and because they illuminate the common sense we all rely on.

Snooty sounding narrator

If you can get past the snooty sounding narrator (you can literally hear his nose up in the air like he thinks he’s better than you) then this is an very good simplification of Aristotle’s ideas.

EXTREMELY in-depth
Revisado: 11-02-22
This book is worth the read, but be warned… it is incredibly in depth and takes a lot of insurance to get through. Also the first third of the book is all about antisemitism, which I understand played a roll in the totalitarianism of the last century, but still felt overdone with this book.

Historia
A masterpiece of satire, this classic has entertained and enlightened readers the world over with its sly and ironic portrayal of human life from the vantage point of Screwtape, a highly placed assistant to "Our Father Below". At once wildly comic, deadly serious, and strikingly original, C. S. Lewis gives us the correspondence of the worldly-wise old devil to his nephew Wormwood, a novice demon in charge of securing the damnation of an ordinary young man. The Screwtape Letters is the most engaging and humorous account of temptation - and triumph over it - ever written.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn famously said that one of the biggest mistakes people make is assuming totalitarianism can't happen in their country. Many American Christians are making that mistake today, sleepwalking through the erosion of our freedoms. Live Not by Lies will wake them and equip them for the long resistance.

A little TOO religious…
Revisado: 07-10-22
There are some very valuable insights in this book about the parallels of our time with the communist Russian past. The only issue I had was just how religious the book is bent. If you can get past that, it’s a great read.
