Historia
Two women occupy a place in Herod's court: the king's only sister, Salome, a resentful woman who has been told she is from an inferior race, and her lowly handmaid, Zara, who sees the hurt in those around her. Both women struggle to reach their goals and survive in Herod the Greats tumultuous court, where no one is trustworthy and no one is safe.

Painful
Revisado: 01-13-25
Endless chapters of recitations of names, places, and historical events without first drawing the reader in by fleshing out the characters. The narration by Alice Jones was forced and harsh.
I nearly ditched the book several times. I've read all of Angela Hunt's books. This one lands squarely at the bottom of the list. Given the subject matter, and the usual caliber of her books, this could have been so much better.

Great Irish story
Revisado: 10-10-24
Narrators has unusual inflections at the ends of sentences - as though he's reading through technical subject matter that he finds boring and unimportant.
It's also weird that the character Patrick develops a posh British accent in this sequel.

Historia
When a nativity display on public property is torched by a former US Senator, the media spotlight falls on the forgotten small town of Leonard, Texas, and the new pastor of its only church—Adam Wells. Emboldened by the prospect of leading his tiny congregation in a nationally-televised, first amendment debate that he considers to be a “fight for the heart and soul of America,” Pastor Wells determines not to let anything or anyone, including his wife and his rebellious sixteen-year old daughter, stand in his way.

Tedious
Revisado: 05-05-24
Not what I've come to expect from these authors. I suppose that they did their best with an existing, rather trite and tired, made-for-TV movie. The guitar strumming was annoying. And the narrator's choice to end every word ending in "ing" with -in' (somethin' nothin', readin', writin') nearly resulted in my abandoning the book long before finishing it. Why would she have every character talk like that? Because the story is set in Texas?!

I'm not sure which reader is doing it, but there's a ridiculous "eh" at the end of every statement made by the female characters. I've never heard anything like it. I want my credit back.!

Annoying Narration
Revisado: 10-21-22
The person who narrated the chapters set in the 1980's is someone I will watch for and avoid in the future. She has an annoying habit of emphasizing and drawing out certain words (usually the verbs) as a way of attempting to add expression. Cringe-worthy :( Otherwise a good story and listen.

Not Good
Revisado: 11-26-21
Full of outrageous improbabilities and characters that were difficult to believe/care about. I chose the book because I had enjoyed A Gentleman In Moscow. Either my tastes have changed or the author's talents have waned. Also, the producers did not seem to notice that the narrator was unable to pronounce the word "anonymous" - several times. The character Sally had an exaggerated snarkiness that almost made me abandon the book. Overall. I'm sorry that I stuck it out to the end. Waste of time.
