I have enjoyed this series. Its mix of hard sci-fi and humor hooked me from the beginning. The Bobiverse grows exponentially from each book.Lots of references to Skippies, the Starfleet War, the Pav, the Others and other references to previous books in the series which were hard to remember. Same with the characters from previous books. But still entertaining listen if you enjoyed the previous books in the series.

Really enjoyed the writing, the setting, the characters, the plot, and the overall style. This book works on so many levels. It’s entertaining, it’s historical, it’s funny, it’s Grady, and its characters are unforgettable. Truly a great read.

I have read most of the books in the Barker and Llewellyn series. The feeling of place, time, character and plot are masterfully interwoven in this latest edition. This series is like a mash up of Sherlock Holmes and Bertie Wooster. Very Grimm, but with a dark and knowing sense of humor. The voices of the many different characters are brilliantly performed by the narrator. This book was pure entertainment from beginning to end, and I look forward to the authors next entry.

I am not as eloquent as some of the other reviewers. But appreciate this book for making me think deeply about burning existential questions such as humanity’s place in the universe, how life began and what is consciousness. He does not claim to have all of the answers but he certainly explains state of the art theories in a thoughtful and well researched way. I am a science believer not a science denier. The things he discusses have a scientific basis as confirmed by observation and mathematics. Very heady stuff.

The premise of the book is that Old Gods exist and if you pray to them in the night they will answer. Thats fine with me because I am a big fan of sci fi and time travel and books about magic. Addie is a wonderful character, stuck with the curse of being instantly forgotten, she still embraces life and refuses to surrender her soul no matter how much she suffers. The narrator does a superb job voicing the characters. The story flashes back and forth between modern day New York City and significant events of Addies 300 year life. I am glad I listened. A very engaging book with many twists and a well paced denouement.

Decent Thriller But Contrived

Hits all the right notes as a Lost Ark/Dan Brown archaology thriller but it was not quite the page turner I was looking for. The plot relied on unlikely contrivances. Like the whole premise that a 60 year old letter is found and mailed to its intended recipient. Like the main character being jailed in Peru and just happening to meet a guy who not only is looking for the same thing but happens to be a former NASA scientist who is an expert at breaking codes, speaks the language of the local aboriginies and is able to set both protagonists free with a fake phone call to the local authorities. The villain is your standard issue old Nazi with unlimited resources to track them down. And in the end theGood are rewarded and the Evil are stricken down. There is no explanation as to what the thing is that the heroes finally encounter. Not a bad book. I gave it 4 stars. But I could not suspend my disbelief.

I was a huge TH fan in the 80s. They were true originals. Way ahead of their time and were both funky and cerebral. It was very interesting to hear the inside story as told by one of its members. They were there at the beginning of punk and new wave in “the room where it happened”. The author met Lou Reed, Andy Warhol , Patty Smith and a lot of celebs at that time. I had always thought David Byrne was the moving force behind TH but now I see it was a true collective. Chris and Tina seemed like some of the few normal people among what was a crazy scene. Really well told bt Mr Frantz himself. A lot of insight as to how the music was made and songs written which I find missing from a lot of rock bios.

A tale of ranchers opportunists and outlaws in the American old west. Lots of whiskey drinkin’, tabacky chawin’, spitten’ and gunplay going on here. The narrator Jesselyn Harney is one tough broad. She decides men get more respect so she disguises as a man. But its her folksy language and keen observations of human nature that make this book interesting. The narrator Sophie Amos voices Jesselyn with a perfect western twang. An lot of action along with gritty violence. Loved it.

Like a grittier version of Holmes and Watson. A total immersion in the history and culture of 18 th century London. Great crime drama and human drama. The first person narration of Thomas Llewellyn is like a younger more naive version of Dr Watson. And there is the whole subtext of the injustices of the British class system and being a “gentleman”. Truly engaging for all fans of historical fiction, mysteries and suspense. The narrator is spot on in his voicings of many British accents from Barker’s Brogue to Llewelyn’s Oxford to guttural Cockney to the snooty “high born” gentlemen. The game is definitely afoot in this one!!!
