Historia
Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful - and cruel - father. Now Scarlett's father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the faraway once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over. But this year Scarlett's long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval's mastermind organizer, Legend.

Not good.
Revisado: 12-19-23
I really wanted to like this one. With how many rave reviews there had been, I expected way more. The narrator seemed to have a cold or something the whole time and was incredibly stuffed up. Her accent for Julian felt super weird and out of place. The story feels like it was written by a young girl doodling in a journal versus a grown woman who understands when to stop using so much dang detail. I can’t return this one otherwise I absolutely would have after the first 25 minutes.

Historia
Adina Walker has known this the entire time she’s been on scholarship at the prestigious Edgewater Academy—a school for the rich (and mostly white) upper class of New England. It’s why she works so hard to be perfect and above reproach, no matter what she must force beneath the surface. Even one slip can cost you everything.

Fun read!

Entertaining and fun! The narrator spoke sad and depressively the entire time though, but because I tandem read (kindle and audio) it didn’t effect the story for me!

Never trust the recommendations, apparently!
Revisado: 10-26-23
I really wanted to like this book 😩. The beginning felt like a 3, then onto a 4, and 4.5, and then mayyyybe almost 5…
…and then back to 3 with the constant monologue repetitions, the romance felt really off putting and sped up (did there need to be dialogue about virginity and purity before marriage??), the world building was terrible, the characters had almost no depth and it just kept draaaaaaging from 70% on. Lots of plot ideas that never seemed to go anywhere. Bummed to waste a credit.

One of the best I’ve read
Revisado: 02-13-23
Absolutely one of the best thriller, spooky books I’ve read in a LONG time. Smart, twisty, entertaining, well thought out. All of the lead women were smart, wonderful and brave.

Late Bedtime 2 nights in a row!
Revisado: 10-10-22
I needed a book to really get excited about, and wow this did it! I stayed up late two nights in a row to finish it. I was tense the whole time listening, feeling just like the narrator, but it was worth every minute.
