Muddied Potential

While I've been enjoying the series so far, minor inconsistencies and a lack of character depth are draining my willingness to continue.

The series, setting, and characters have so much raw potential it's maddening, but it all suffers from a lack of depth in the people we follow since we don't ever get much beyond surface motivations.

A minor nit-pick would be that the author re-uses the word "instantly" instead of mixing it with any pseudonyms to the point it gets annoying.

Racism and xenophobia

The degree of racism and xenophobia after the Nihilism section is something I couldn't stomach. The author's distain for equality and compassion, among other ideals showed me the reason he himself is held at arms length by most humanitarians.

A slightly rushed finisher

The story was great but some elements felt rushed (like a certain acid weilding person) and there were several minor continuity issues that got worse near the end of the book (swapped names, if people wore masks, positions not being consistent, etc). This entry isn't the level of quality that the rest of the series has as a result of these errors.

The voice acting as always is top notch, although he used a very different voice for Dom than he used in the book that centered around this character. To be fair this entry also had like 20 different recurring people in it so its admittedly me nit-picking.

A continuing adventure

This story continues to surprise and entertain on a level I have found lacking in other recent novels of its genre and I eagerly await more.

Difficult to predict and wonderful to watch.

Jason breaks back into the spotlight alongside a large cast of characters for another mayhem and gore filled adventure. None of the avatars featured dissapoint and the attention to detail from the author is stunning, bringing in details and hints from earlier installments into center stage. This series and it’s spin-offs continue to be just about the only well-written and expanded Lit-RPG series I have found in a long, long time. The darker motivations of the cast and new twist on the storytelling helps to maintain this universe as the no. 1 series I suggest to anyone looking for some cathartic story telling with 3 dimensional charactors.

Better than the Last

Diamond in the Rough

Some minor math issues and detail mixups meld with weak charactor development to muddle an otherwise unique and enjoyable story. Ill be downloading the sequal soon enough though!

A great story and startling improvement.

For the review I wrote on the last book I mentioned the weak preformance of the male reader and time inconsistencies in the story, but I was thrilled to see a dramatic improvement in his ability to adjust his tone, AND the time inconsistencies became part of the story and were actually acknowledged by the characters. My only other complaint is how much less the oyher voice actor was involved, but otherwise i greatly enjoyed the story.

Two actors, one lackluster and one amazing

While the story is one that i would like to follow, the male narrator needs to adjust his tone for the situation he is reading, he uses the same chipper tone for somebody getting murdered as he does when something wonderful happens. his lackluster performance steals any sense of dread from the book. his counterpart preforms wonderfully in comparison, matching her tone with what is being read.

Terrific but could bear to be more technical

Like the entries in the series before it, AO does a phenominal job of storytelling and lore development. My ONLY reservation is that it didn't focus as heavily on the raw mathematics of the stats in game as the previous entries in the series, and that it relied on slight Deus Ex Machina moments twice in the story.
