Historia
Examining murder from an insider’s perspective, Matt Murphy—a former senior deputy district attorney and current ABC News legal analyst—discusses cases from his career, how they strained his personal life, and how he found peace seeking justice for victims and their families. Part taxonomy of murder, part prosecutor’s handbook, and part personal memoir, The Book of Murder goes through a dozen cases and his recollections of his 26 years in the Orange County DA’s office (17 in the Homicide Unit).

Lawyers: People we love to hate until we need one! I really enjoyed this book and the author’s narration was excellent. He managed to bring to light many of the emotional highs and lows of being a prosecutor without sounding like a cry baby. Fascinating to hear some details on several well-known cases that I ‘d never heard before. All in all a great read and I hope that the author will consider writing more.

Historia
Modern Christianity is in the midst of a veritable schism along the fault lines of society's culture wars. Only if we understand the origins of this split can we find our way to unity. Though few may realize it today, Jesus's ministry unfolded in a crisis very similar to the one society is now battling. In fact, were it not for the truly catastrophic conditions in early first-century Galilee, his reimagining of the three quintessential virtues of the Torah—social justice; compassion toward one another; and an abiding love of God—would have likely failed to attract a wide following.

Sorry, I bought this book to learn about Jesus. NOT to get a sermon on the evils of the AR15! The good professor shows his ignorance and stupidity when he makes claims that the GOVERNMENT should be responsible for eradicating evil in society by taking away a tool. I want a refund!

Historia
At the end of the last century, Johnstown, Pennsylvania, was a booming coal-and-steel town filled with hardworking families striving for a piece of the nation's burgeoning industrial prosperity. In the mountains above Johnstown, an old earth dam had been hastily rebuilt to create a lake for an exclusive summer resort patronized by the tycoons of that same industrial prosperity, among them Andrew Carnegie, Henry Clay Frick, and Andrew Mellon.

Narration is first class and the story, though tragic is compelling. So sad these things are not taught in modern classrooms.

Historia
In the late 1800s, the city of Austin, Texas, was on the cusp of emerging from an isolated western outpost into a truly cosmopolitan metropolis. But beginning in December 1884, Austin was terrorized by someone equally as vicious and, in some ways, far more diabolical than London's infamous Jack the Ripper. For almost exactly one year, the Midnight Assassin crisscrossed the entire city, striking on moonlit nights, using axes, knives, and long steel rods to rip apart women from every race and class.

I wanted story of the crimes, not an illustrative history of Austin Texas. I get “setting the stage”, but at chapter seven, there’s still no crime story.

Historia
On Christmas Night 1996, six-year-old JonBenet Ramsey was murdered in her family's home in Boulder, Colorado. A ransom note was found, but it was hours before her father, John, found her body in the basement. She had been strangled with a garrote and her skull was fractured. The media sensationalized the tragic death of the "child beauty queen" and public speculation and rumors ran rampant. What followed was one of the most notorious unsolved murder investigations in American history.

Wish I’d known Lou…
Revisado: 05-19-23
As in any law enforcement writing, a lot of ego-driven platitudes exists. Unfortunately because our LE community always seems to have to let everyone know that “they’re not just stupid cops”. That’s sad because, as this story proves, one does not need degrees to figure things out.
It doesn’t matter who ones believes killed Jon Benet Ramsey. What matters is that we find who did. This book reminds us of that fact and reminds us of how out-of-control, ego driven government officials (i.e., Boulder Colorado Police, DAs office, etc.,) can and do get in the way of justice. Almost 30 years has gone by and the technology exists to solve this crime…shame and damnation on those who stand in the way…

Historia
Mattie Ross, a 14-year-old girl from Dardanelle, Arkansas, sets out to avenge her Daddy who was shot to death by a no-good outlaw. Mattie convinces one-eyed "Rooster" Cogburn, the meanest U.S. marshal in the land, to ride along with her. In True Grit, we have a true American classic, as young Mattie, as vital as she is innocent, outdickers and outmaneuvers the hard-bitten men of the trail in a legend that will last through the ages.

Modern Classic
Revisado: 04-16-22
I normally never write full reviews, but I must share the passion for which I hold for this modern classic. I will not waste your time or mine, by reviewing, or spoiling the story for you. I will only say that if you need a break from modern, trash-filled fiction, or whatever it is that you need a break from, try this. I know. You’ve seen the John Wayne movie or the newer Jeff Bridges version. They’re good indeed, and the merits and pitfalls of films can be debated later. Read the book. Let your mind fill in all the scenery, the noises, the characters. Take a break from your usual and enjoy this tale, set in the 1800’s American West. You’ll love it.
