Historia
Cameron Winter is troubled in heart and mind. He's plagued by memories of his time as a government operative investigating a notorious Turkish sex trafficker. The fact that the mission was left unfinished still haunts him and threatens to tear him apart. In the midst of his painful soul-searching, Winter crosses paths with an ex-flame—his first love—and the chance encounter ignites a passion he thought was long lost. But just as soon as she wanders back into Winter's life, the woman vanishes, leaving Winter scrambling to track her down.

excellent read.

I can't really say much about the book without getting into spoilers about it and the three previous novels. I'll just say Andrew klavin really knows how to write a good story with good characters.

I hate how much I love this book.
Revisado: 11-27-24
I heard that the romance genre, while always being kind of trashy and poorly disguised soft core porn, had become just twisted, over the top, smut ever since fifty shades hit the scene. I also heard that Bride was an example of that. So out of morbid curiosity I gave this a listen. I'm a 40 year old man and am well aware I am not the target audience for this book, so I started out listening only half interested, waiting for the smut. However I quickly got drawn into the story and the characters. The author has a talent for writing interesting characters, and the conspiracy plot is complex enough to keep you from figuring it out too early but doesn't get needlessly convoluted either. As for the romantic subplot, (which might be the actual main plot) the relationship between Misery and Low develops organically and has a little bit of will they won't they tension despite the reader knowing they most certainly will. And the reader knows this because the book takes frequent brakes from the conspiracy plot line, the political intrigue, and world building to remind us that the two main characters are super horny for each other. As I listen to the audiobook I kept hearing the opening bars of let's get it on by Marvin Gaye. It got to be a running joke in my mind. I bust out laughing multiple times listening to the book. Oh interesting, we've unraveled the mystery a bit more. Queue up Marvin Gaye. As for the smut itself in the book. It's pretty spicy near the end. It's a slow burn throughout the first three quarters of the book that breaks out into a wildfire by the end. As for it being depraved smut which I was kind of expecting. Outside of some peculiarities introduced by the fact that one character is a vampire and the other one is a werewolf, the sex described as fairly vanilla. The author is excellent at describing it though. When listening to a Jack Reacher novel I'll zone out or just spik ahead when there's a sex scene, but in Bride I continue to be engaged even during the frequent occasions the book took to remind you the characters are super horny for each other and the sex scenes. Probably because of the excellent character writing. This is overall just a good book if you're not easily scandalized.

Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

Historia
All of the stories you've heard are wrong. They always tell you that starting a new life in a fantasy world is an amazing experience, full of magic, adventure, and true love...but they never tell you what happens when it's over. They don't tell you that it just happens again. And again. By the time you start your third new life in a row, all of that initial amazement wears off. That's where Lux finds himself now: dropped into yet another fantasy world, forced to restart his life all over again. He wants nothing more than to disappear...but it seems the world has other plans for him.

not bad, but something's just not right. SPOILERS
Revisado: 05-28-21
the premise is compelling, and the magic system is pretty good. but something just seems off about the world and how events play out. I thought Leah was a spy for a while, because it seemed too convenient that she got put in a cell across from Lux. I thought the events with Leah and the corrupt guards was all a setup by the ruling power to get lux to explain/demonstrate how his magic works. and then Leah's parents seem a little too okay with an obviously dangerous stranger taking their daughter away and going god-knows-where with her. not to mention how they all but told Leah and lux to go get it on in her bedroom. the character writing is decent. would be nice to see some more thought put into the plot though. it's a power fantasy/wish-fulfillment/fan service Novel.

Historia
In I’m Your Emotional Support Animal, Adam Carolla examines how our culture went careening off a cliff. We used to have one that created real warriors who fought world wars. Now it spawns social justice warriors who fight Twitter wars. He takes on those who are traumatized by Trump and “emotional support animal” owners who proclaim their victimhood at every airport. He stands up for the collateral damage of the #MeToo movement and for freedom of speech on “safe space” filled college campuses.

brutally honest social commentary that would make you weep over the rise of wokeism if weren't laughing your ass off at the masterful jokes made at it's expense. the audio book makes it that much funnier as Adam delivers every line like the comedy genius he is.

Welcome to Ringworld, an intermediate step between Dyson Spheres and planets. The gravitational force created by a rotation on its axis of 770 miles per second means no need for a roof. Walls 1,000 miles high at each rim will let in the sun and prevent much air from escaping. Larry Niven's novel, Ringworld, is the winner of the 1970 Hugo Award for Best Novel, the 1970 Nebula Award for Best Novel, and the 1972 Ditmars, an Australian award for Best International Science Fiction.

good old-school sci-fi
Revisado: 04-05-21
excellent speculative sci-fi. while listening to it you'll realize you've seen the ideas in the book borrowed and expounded on in countless newer pieces of media. it's a testament to how captivating the ideas were in 1970 when Larry Niven wrote ringworld. the performance is good but very old at this point. the only reason I gave four stars for the performance instead of 5 is I was hoping they would have we recorded it for the audible release.

We believe these are the divisions that are threatening to tear America apart. But what if the culprit isn't a political ideology or a class of people but a puppet master? He's been manipulating us for centuries - and now he's brought us to the brink of implosion.

worth the money.
Revisado: 03-27-21
Steve deace has found a fairly captivating framing device for a moral / political argument in favor of constitutional conservatism. parts of the book really feel like you're listening to the writings of an honest to God demon. but for the majority of it it's very obvious you're listening to a persuasive work by a political pundit. from a theological standpoint he captures the viewpoint of the demon quite well. definitely worth a listen.

haven't finished not going to
Revisado: 03-17-21
I'm 2 and a half hours into this book and I have no idea what's going on or why I should care. the book introduces too many characters, too quickly and doesn't spend enough time with any them for me to become familiar or invested. later in the book when it returns to these characters I'm not going to remember who they are. it also throws too much world building at you too quickly. I need to know and care about the world as it relates to the events happening on the page I'm currently reading before I'm going to care about feuds with 15 other nations or the ancient history of the world. other audiobooks have had me hooked in the first 10 minutes.
