Historia
When Scott Payne was growing up, he never envisioned a future that included what happened on Halloween night 2019. Out in the woods of Georgia, he tried desperately to save a goat from being sacrificed in a ritual by a group of neo-Nazis without revealing that he was actually an undercover agent. Now, this retired FBI agent reveals how and why he infiltrated the rapidly growing American Nazi group, The Base. Known as the “Hillbilly Donnie Brasco,” Payne was guided through some of the most terrifying assignments in the FBI’s history by his devotion to his family and his Christian faith.

Really interesting!!
Revisado: 04-12-25
I truly enjoyed this book! One thing that really hit home for me while listening, is that it’s not just politicians and political parties that sow discord in our society. These hate groups have a plan to pit us all against each other and keep anger & hatred stoked constantly. I appreciate the authors work and career and thought his story was fantastic! God bless the good guys!!! Also, really enjoyed his own narration! Well done!!!

Fight is the backstage story of bloodsport politics in its rawest form—the clawing, backstabbing, and rabble-rousing that drove Donald Trump into the White House and Democrats into the wilderness. At every turn, the combatants went for the jugular, whether they were facing down rivals in the other party or their own.

Really informative!
Revisado: 04-10-25
Thought this was a fabulous rundown of the 2024 election. There are many lessons here-but one takeaway for me is just how full of ego, spit & vinegar Joe Biden is!? Truly, he screwed his own party for his ego. I DO wish this book addressed the Kennedy effect on Trump, maybe I’m giving it more credit than I should, but I believe RFK Jr joining forces with Trump deserves more attention and analysis than has been given here. Overall great listen though.

Her strength is so admirable!!
Revisado: 03-26-25
What this young woman went through is shocking & astonishing. It was hard to listen to at times. I so admire her strength & resilience! I thought the book would be more about the religious control & abuse, but it must’ve been hard to cover all of that. The author s book ms like she’s working on forgiving her mother for allowing her father to sexually abuse his daughters, but I am having a hard time with that. I understand her mother was also abused, but I cannot fathom continuing to have babies for for a man who abused them in horrific ways. I feel her mother belongs in jail also. Just a tragic story. I’m glad she is moving forward with her life. ❤️

Historia
To a unique degree, Christopher Steele has been an eyewitness observer of modern Russian history. He was a British diplomat and intelligence professional in Moscow when the Soviet Union was collapsing. Steele was there when the putsch against Mikhail Gorbachev took place and when Boris Yeltsin took over the newly independent Russia. After Vladimir Putin came to power, Steele rose to become one of British government’s leading Russia experts and played a central role in the investigation into the Kremlin-ordered murder of Alexander Litvinenko.

Mostly a biography of Steele
Revisado: 03-24-25
I have to admit, I couldn’t finish it-an hour left to go, and it’s still just a slogging biography of Steele. The title is misleading, as the book really doesn’t contain much detail in the way of new or interesting info regarding Trump, and I’ve yet to hear much about “saving democracy”. I DO feel that Steele has been very brave to tell his story, and I believe he should be granted some kind of legal immunity or protection. Politicians against Trump used this man & his firm’s information then left him to fight Trump in a never ending game of law fare. Personally, I believe the Steele dossier was likely true, and I think the Russians have “kompromat”, but this book was more about Steele’s life & career than any of that. Narrator was ok-British, and sometimes developed into a cadence that was annoying.

Historia
In the aftermath of the Cold War, American intelligence caught three high-profile Russian spies: Aldrich Ames, Edward Lee Howard, and Robert Hanssen. However, rumors have long swirled of another mole, one perhaps more damaging than all the others combined. Perhaps the greatest traitor in American history, perhaps a Russian ruse to tear the CIA apart, or perhaps nothing more than a bogeyman, he is often referred to as the Fourth Man.

Couldn’t finish due to narration
Revisado: 02-26-25
I really wanted to like this book-I gave it a good chance. I enjoy spy/CIA true stories, but the narrator was terrible. He spoke in a kind of cadence that was almost “sing/song” and I would have to rewind and focus too hard. I won’t listen to another book by this narrator.

Historia
Recruited into the fundamentalist Quiverfull movement as a young wife, Tia Levings learned that being a good Christian meant following a list of additional life principles—a series of secret, special rules to obey. Being a godly and submissive wife in Christian Patriarchy included strict discipline, isolation, and an alternative lifestyle that appeared wholesome to outsiders. Women were to be silent, “keepers of the home.” A Well-Trained Wife is an unforgettable memoir about a woman's race to save herself and her family and details the ways that extreme views can manifest in a marriage.

WOW!! Definitely recommend!!
Revisado: 02-05-25
This book was SO enlightening!!! I’ve read several books by women who’ve escape fundamental Christianity, they’ve all been good, but THIS ONE was the most raw and thorough telling I’ve read or listened to. I ESPECIALLY appreciated her thoughts on politics, as I see much of these patriarchal beliefs coming forward with this Project 2025 nightmare. Tia has clearly done a great job recovering and disentangling herself from this cult. I hope she keeps writing!!!!

My heart goes out to this lady!
Revisado: 02-02-25
Good book-I feel for this lady & her family. I hope she knows love & kindness for the rest of her days! I was really saddened at her mother’s behavior… I think her mom is definitely complicit in the abuse. I did have to speed book up to 1.2, I feel the reading was slow, halting and a little childlike. Her father deserved far worse than he got.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Tragic, depressing tale
Revisado: 01-23-25
I chose this book mostly because it seemed to be a “bestseller” or most recommended book. I did not know the author was an actress and never heard of her tv show. This was a tragic, sad, depressing listen. This young lady is REALLY screwed up all thanks to her mother, who was a pathetic, manipulative nut job. The book left me SO SAD. I hope the author gets the help she needs, sounds like she’s working on that, but it seems like it will take years of therapy to straighten out what her mother did to her. I will also say… the narration was robotic, like an automaton was reading it… hard to feel empathy. I think at times she was trying to be funny(?), but it came across just so tragic.

Shari Franke’s childhood was a constant battle for survival. But a darker truth lurked beneath the surface—Ruby’s wholesome online persona masked a more tyrannical parenting style than anyone could have imagined.

Revisado: 01-15-25
I didn’t follow this family on YouTube, so I didn’t really know much of the story until this book. I thought Shari did a great job telling her story, without getting into the more sordid specifics of the saga. I feel bad for this girl, as well as her siblings because I believe both of her parents let the children down. I hope her mother stays in jail for a very long time, she deserves to be there and the children deserve to move on the best they can. I was saddened to hear of how Child Protective Services, District Attorneys and the rest of the system let these kids down.
