Historia
Kathleen Hanna’s band Bikini Kill embodied the punk scene of the 90s, and today her personal yet feminist lyrics on anthems like “Rebel Girl” and “Double Dare Ya” are more powerful than ever. But where did this transformative voice come from? In Rebel Girl, Hanna’s raw and insightful new memoir, she takes us from her tumultuous childhood to her formative college years and her first shows. As Hanna makes clear, being in a punk “girl band” in those years was not a simple or safe prospect.

Rupaul is a legend
Revisado: 03-15-24
I’ve been a long time fan of Rupaul. As a teen, seeing Ru on tv for the very first time I knew this person was a star. It was the first time I saw someone represented on television that felt like immediately family, like a soul I missed but didn’t know. Since that day I have faithfully followed Rupaul’s career, watching every movie, show, buying every book, candy bar and perfume bottle. Hey if it helped support someone living their best life then I’m there for it. This new offering however felt wholly different, something important, meaningful and rich.
My own personal spiritual awakening came from another of Ru’s earlier books were he mentioned the author Eckart Tolle and the book The Power of Now. In this book he goes on to explain “we are all basically the universe—pretending to be humans for a brief moment of time.’” This, this right here broke me open. It was the spark that ignited a fire within me to find truth and meaning to this human experience. I then read the Power of Now and was again broke open. This began my journey towards enlightenment. The tools and knowledge I’ve learned and wisdom I’ve gained from this one single ahh ha moment has helped me during extreme grief and to be at peace during the chaos of the world we are currently experiencing. Thank you Rupaul for that spark.
Hearing stories of his upbringing and journey to adulthood was captivating and inspiring. Hearing his story I also heard echoes my own story of childhood trauma and the lost little girl I’ve been neglecting for too long. His story of addiction really hit home and made me see ways I’ve been numbing my own pain and grief. Through his story I was able to see ways I also coped with my own pain.
To Rupaul, thank you for being your authentic self and sharing your story. Thank you for all of the beauty you have filled this world with. Your ability to be brave and let the world see you fully is showing the rest of us how to also be brave. This what a life well lived looks like. I’m humbled and eternally grateful for the lessons you have imparted.
To potential readers, if are a fan of Rupaul then you will definitely love this book. Great story telling and pacing. Some great laughs in there too!

Historia
This book is a quilt, piecing together memoir, history, and theory into a living portrait of an artist and an art. Sasha Velour illuminates drag as a unique form of expression with a rich history and a revolutionary spirit. Each chapter strips off a new layer, removing one tantalizing glove and then another, to reveal all the twists and turns in the life of a queen. As Sasha recalls her own journey, from the women who raised her, to learning the craft of an artist, to success, disaster, and more, she also uncovers the history of queer life around the world that made it all possible.

Historia
An insightful, candid, and inspiring memoir from Karamo Brown - Queer Eye’s beloved culture expert - as he shares his story for the first time, exploring how the challenges in his own life have allowed him to forever transform the lives of those in need. When Karamo Brown first auditioned for the casting directors of Netflix’s Queer Eye, he knew he wouldn’t win the role of culture expert by discussing art and theater. Instead, he decided to redefine what “culture” could - and should - mean for the show. He took a risk and declared, “I am culture.”
