Good Story but Unnecessarily long!
Revisado: 01-17-12
Beautifully written. Great and interesting Story; however, it was way too repetitive with many irrelevant details. Never thought I would see the day when I would have preferred an abridged version of any book. At one point, I had to answer my phone and didn't turn off my ipod. When I returned to the story, I hadn't missed much....need I say more? To finish the book, I took one reviewer's advice and sped up the narration. The narration was very well done and kept me interested--even with the increased speed!

Historia
This ambitious, electrifying work traces the harrowing journey of the famed Sarajevo Haggadah, a beautifully illuminated Hebrew manuscript created in 15th-century Spain. When it falls to Hanna Heath, an Australian rare-book expert, to conserve this priceless work, the series of tiny artifacts she discovers in its ancient binding—an insect wing fragment, wine stains, salt crystals, a white hair—only begin to unlock its deep mysteries.

Its ok.
Revisado: 01-05-11
If this is your first book in the historic novel genre, then you will enjoy it. For me, it didn't contain anything new. I'm also at a point in my life where I don't want to listen to detailed and graphic torture/violent scenes and this book has a couple of these scenes--which is hard to skip over in an audio format. I wish someone had mentioned that, I wouldn't have listened to the book. Depressing overall but beautifully written.

Adventure and romance enter Vicky Bliss' life in the form of a black-and-white photograph of a woman covered from head to toe in gold jewels. This "Trojan Gold" has an intriguing history, but it is the envelope that piques Vicky's curiosity. It is a grimy brown, with no return address, and it appears to have been soaked in blood.

Barbara Rosenblat can make any listening experience wonderful. I'm a fan of hers and admit that I enjoyed this book because she read it! Light and fun listening experience. Although I admit that I don't know if I would have liked reading the book.

I enjoy this author and have read many of his books but I must admit that after listening to this book, I realized that the book was written to be read out loud. I found it very enjoyable and was disappointed that audible only carried one other book--"the alchemist"--by this author. I loved it!

Hauntingly beautiful!
Revisado: 11-21-07
I enjoy reading books with Hero/heroines who are vulnerable but strong--naive but not useless. This book had these elements. I felt I got to know the characters in the book and I didn't get tired of them. It is also very easy to follow and listen to. I recently listened to a book named "the Observations" by Jane Harris--if you enjoyed that book, you will like this book.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.
