Historia
Fumio Sasaki is not an enlightened minimalism expert or organizing guru like Marie Kondo - he's just a regular guy who was stressed out and constantly comparing himself to others, until one day he decided to change his life by saying goodbye to everything he didn't absolutely need. The effects were remarkable: Sasaki gained true freedom, new focus, and a real sense of gratitude for everything around him.

Biased and presumptive
Revisado: 01-29-23
Author adds little to the field of minimalism and admittedly is new to the practice. He makes many assumptions about what motivates one to minimize (e.g. we’re all overwhelmed with our possessions and the reason we accumulate is a superficial show of wealth). Obviously his reasons must be everyone’s, right? Consequently his techniques don’t go very deep.

Well crafted
Revisado: 01-29-23
Gaiman is a wonderfully imaginative storyteller. Aimed primarily at a young adult audience, the characters and their experiences are relatable for older adults as well. There is enough suspense to keep you interested in the arc of the novel, even if some of the turns are telegraphed. I just love allowing Gaiman’s prose to unfold.

Historia
The great Oglala Sioux chief Red Cloud was the only Plains Indian to defeat the United States Army in a war, forcing the American government to sue for peace in a conflict named for him. At the peak of their chief’s powers, the Sioux could claim control of one-fifth of the contiguous United States. But unlike Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, or Geronimo, the fog of history has left Red Cloud strangely obscured. Now, thanks to painstaking research by two award-winning authors, his incredible story can finally be told.

Tries to be unbiased
Revisado: 11-18-22
But really?! With a closing line of “we did it for civilization “ you have to ask by who’s definition? And of course the answer is the colonizers. I learned about Red Cloud’s life, especially the early years. Pretty much zero analysis of how and why his views seemed to have so radically shifted later in his life. For me the most annoying aspect of the audiobook was the abundant mispronunciation of the area’s features and names. Clearly the narrator had no knowledge of the area and presumably didn’t ask - or no coaching seems to have taken place. While not absolutely necessary, for someone who does have some knowledge and seeks to learn more, it’s painful to hear even the names of forts (let alone Lakota words) get butchered. I felt let down in the end, even though there was clearly much research that went into it. I just didn’t like the presentation that much.

Historia
Forty years ago Israeli psychologists Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky wrote a series of breathtakingly original studies undoing our assumptions about the decision-making process. Their papers showed the ways in which the human mind erred systematically when forced to make judgments about uncertain situations. Their work created the field of behavioral economics, revolutionized Big Data studies, advanced evidence-based medicine, led to a new approach to government regulation, and made Michael Lewis' work possible.

Fascinating story

Fascinating story but many of the same points were repeated about the relationship throughout the book. I found the jumps back and forth in time a bit distracting.

Historia
Greg Donahue’s The Minuteman, tells the story of one of Newark’s native sons; ex-prizefighter and longtime Zwillman enforcer Sidney Abramowitz, a.k.a. Nat Arno, who took over leadership of the Minutemen in 1934 and made it his personal business to put an end to what he saw as the Bund’s “anti-American” activities. For six years, Arno and his crew of vigilantes battled Newark’s Nazis at every turn. The Minuteman is a story of the ethics of violence in the face of fascism; a forgotten legacy that is as relevant now as it was nearly a hundred years ago.

I didn’t know this story and the audible short does a good job of filling in a piece of history and context for the current alt right movement.

Historia
Ady Barkan loved taking afternoon runs on the California coast and holding his newborn son, Carl. But one day, he noticed a troubling weakness in his hand. At first, he brushed it off as carpal tunnel syndrome, but after a week of neurological exams and two MRIs, he learned the cause of the problem: amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, better known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease. At age 32, Ady was given just three to four years to live. Yet despite the devastating diagnosis, he refused to let his remaining days go to waste.

Historia
In 2017, a routine network television investigation led to a story only whispered about: one of Hollywood’s most powerful producers was a predator, protected by fear, wealth, and a conspiracy of silence. As Farrow drew closer to the truth, shadowy operatives, from high-priced lawyers to elite war-hardened spies, mounted a secret campaign of intimidation, threatening his career, following his every move, and weaponizing an account of abuse in his own family.

Important and well researched
Revisado: 11-15-19
I found it a little difficult to follow at times but he pulls the pieces together in the end. Meticulous and incredibly relevant. Farrow is one of the most important investigative journalists of our time. He isn’t taking the easy path in life but is willing to take risks and to use his skills and his visibility to give voice to those who aren’t listened to or even valued in many cases. Will be interesting to see if NBC makes some needed changes in leadership.
