Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

It easiest to simply say that this book is a perfect book in every way. One of the best I’ve read. The audio version especially.

Historia
Every 100 years, the island of Lightlark appears to host the Centennial, a deadly game that only the rulers of six realms are invited to play. The Centennial offers the six rulers one final chance to break the curses that have plagued their realms for centuries. Isla Crown is the young ruler of Wildling—a realm of temptresses cursed to kill anyone they fall in love with. They are feared and despised, and are counting on Isla to end their suffering by succeeding at the Centennial. To survive, Isla must lie, cheat, and betray...even as love complicates everything.

Guaranteed to surprise!
Revisado: 08-31-22
My teenage daughter asked me to take her to the Alex Aster book tour event. I had never heard of her. The event, and Ms. Aster, we’re wonderful and I was sold on the much touted plot twists. I bought the book to read along with my daughter and was floored! First by the clever and skillful writing which I wasn’t expecting to be as great as it was, and second by the intricacies of the plot!! Very highly recommend for anyone young or less so!

Historia
Mainstream perceptions about what it means to be Buddhist in America often whitewash and invisibilize the diverse, inclusive, and intersectional communities that lie at the heart of American Buddhism. Be the Refuge is both critique and celebration, calling out the erasure of Asian-American Buddhists while uplifting the complexity and nuance of their authentic stories and vital, thriving communities. Drawn from in-depth interviews with a pan-ethnic, pan-Buddhist group, Be the Refuge is the first book to center young Asian-American Buddhists' own voices.

One of the critical books if you are practicing the dharma in the west, in my opinion.

Historia
What does it mean to be Black and Buddhist? In this powerful collection of writings, African-American teachers from all the major Buddhist traditions tell their stories of how race and Buddhist practice have intersected in their lives. The resulting explorations display not only the promise of Buddhist teachings to empower those facing racial discrimination but also the way that Black Buddhist voices are enriching the dharma for all practitioners.

A great introductory Buddhist book from some of the best Buddhist teachers today!
Revisado: 03-27-21
Highly recommend this book for many reasons. It gives a great example of the sphere of the dharma with a core that is the same across it, and from some of the best teachers today.

Historia
In this “vital, necessary, and beautiful book” (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and “allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people'" (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent meaningful cross-racial dialogue.

Historia
In Sit Down and Shut Up, Brad Warner tackles one of the great works of Zen literature, the Shobogenzo by 13th century Zen master Dogen. Illuminating Dogen's enigmatic teachings in plain language, Warner intertwines sharp philosophical musings on sex, evil, anger, meditation, enlightenment, death, God, sin, and happiness with an exploration of the power and pain of the punk rock ethos.

DIY Audio version is better than the book!
Revisado: 12-30-14
This audiobook was far better than I recall the print book being. That just means that I got more out of it the second time around, and that Brad's voice got his meaning across better then the print did. IMO
