Incredible History Revealed

I couldn’t wait to keep listening to this audiobook! (awesome narrator). Such an interesting focus for the plot— based on both the blue people of KY and the packhorse librarians of the WPA. Although a fiction book, tons of facts were inserted and history was used as a base in this historical fiction tale. I stopped and did my own internet research on a topic several times due to the subject matter introduced. I do think the ending was rushed and that was disappointing, so it lost a star for me. But, all of the facts I learned and the rabbit holes I started down due to the new and interesting things presented in this book of history was AMAZING! It is definitely one of the best books I've ever read... and I'm a librarian!!! A must-read for 2021! Also, the audible audiobook version was incredible as well. The narrator really put her whole self into the characters and made the main character come to life. It was so well done that even though I'd borrowed the listen from my local library, I had to come to Audible and purchase the book for myself! This one is a keeper!

The main characters fussed & argued most of the book and got on my nerves! I nearly cut it off it was so annoying. If it hadn’t had an interesting subtopic of the UGRR, which is one of my favorites, I would have stopped reading within the first couple of chapters. The last 1/3 of the book was fairly good, but not plausible. Two people who got on each other's nerves so badly could not possibly suddenly turn toward having romantic feelings and want to marry so quickly. It just didn't make sense. The flow of change in feelings wasn't presented to show you how it happened either--- it just sort of happened. Thus, not very good writing. Unfortunately, the UGRR subplot storyline was too minor to carry the story. I had high hopes for this book after reading the summary, but it failed to reach its potential plot dynamic. The narrator was at least good at her pacing and voices. That's a plus. I'll be sure to keep her name in mind when looking for other Audible titles.
