Lots of fun
Revisado: 01-31-25
I loved the movie so much, I wanted to give the inspiration book a try. It was lots of fun! The storyline is different, but this book has as much humor and whimsy as the film it inspired, plus all my favorite characters--just on new adventures. Enjoyed as an adult, though it feels like middle grade on up would enjoy.

Gav isn't really sure how he ended up with a castle full of goblins, or why he has a princess locked in a cell. All he can do is play along with his own evil plan in hopes of getting his memories back before he gets himself killed. But as he realizes that nothing—from the incredibly tasteless cloak adorned with flames to the aforementioned princess—is quite what it seems, Gav must face up to all the things the Dread Lord Gavrax has done. And he'll have to answer the hardest question of all—who does he want to be?

Lots of fun
Revisado: 01-22-25
This was really good. I read it through in just a few days, which is fast for me. Its twists are surprising yet inevitable, and its main character is endearing and relatable. The humor was golden, in the same vein as Kill the Farmboy; and Two Necromancers, a Bureacrat, and an Elf. Keval Shah is an excellent narrator, including for the women's voices, which can get so bad so fast. Stands alone, but if Caitlin Rosakis writes a sequel adventure, I'll read it!

Slower but had a great middle
Revisado: 09-06-24
It took me a few hours to get into this book (I really liked Ready Player 1). But once I did, around the big event that shifting the entire plot, I was interested. Ernest Cline does a good job on the ending, too. Will Weaton's narration was stellar, as always.

Nice Mix
Revisado: 06-14-24
I liked Mary Robinette's variety of stories. M. R. explores medieval time travel, death magic, AIs trying to learn puppeteering, and more. Something for everyone. My favorite was Body Language, the story that goes with the cover image.
Also love that she narrates her own work!

One of the most celebrated tales of all time, Around the World in 80 Days is part high-octane thriller, part fascinating fantasy travelogue. Pragmatic gambler Phileas Fogg has made a gentlemanly wager to the members of his exclusive club: that he can circle the world in just 80 days, right down to the minute. Fetching his newly appointed French valet, Fogg embarks on a fabulous journey across land and sea - by steamer, rail, and elephant - to win the bet of a lifetime.

Very good for this newbie
Revisado: 06-10-24
I haven't read the original text, but the voices and sound effects were good enough that I kept up with what was going on. The story was fun and fast paced. I liked the major characters. The production had, oh, 27 named voice actors, making for a neat listen.

Meet Minnie, Dotty, and Stella—all retired and year-round residents on a cruise ship, they have dubbed themselves the unofficial matchmakers aboard. Minnie can ferret out a lonely woman by the second day of the cruise. Dotty can spot an open-hearted man all the way across the Lido Deck. And Stella is great at putting a plan together. Together they’ve been every bit as successful as one of those online dating sites, and they can watch the romance unfold right before their eyes.

Fun 2 Hours
Revisado: 04-18-24
The Matchmakers has a really fun premise: three 75-year-old ladies decide that instead of moving into a rest home, they'll become permanent snow birds on cruise ships--and will play matchmaker on board! Salty and sweet but mostly sweet. Some scenes are a bit repetitive, but I'd still recommend. HEA-approved!
Note: the title description isn't 100% accurate. The cruise is to South America, not Alaska, and the character Stella is actually Sookie. But the jist is there.

Great read!
Revisado: 04-13-24
This was really fun! Different from the movie but just as good. Had the best "3D" representation of high functioning autism I've ever seen, too. As in, the god of the digital universe is on the spectrum and its fixation element has contributed to his success.
I was worried I wouldn't "get" the storyline since it's heavy 80s influenced and I didn't live through the 80s. Not an issue with how the book is written!
Ready Player One is a good gateway to the growing litRPG genre. Would read again!

She has been selected to give the final address in Scotland before they vote on legislation that will grant protective rights to the shifter community. Because she is fundamentally changing the laws, she is also receiving death threats.

Good conclusion
Revisado: 02-27-24
This was a good finish to the series. I was worried that I'd be saddled with a selfish, pushy protagonist the whole time, but I actually really liked Emmie! Emmie is goodhearted and determined. She uses her privilege to fight for the rights of oppressed shapeshifters. The novel gave the rest of the gang from the series appearances, so that was nice for a concluding book. I'd like a short story (or longer) about Emmie's stepsister Madeline; I want to know more about her secret and what it looks like.
Would recommend this whole series to others.

I loved this! It's like Dr Darcey and steampunk and a haunted house murder mystery had a baby. Plenty of red herrings for the mystery and a female hero with grit.
This is a standalone, so you can jump around in the series just fine only missing little "for fun" details.

Great romance! The steampunk elements were really fun. It was the perfect length--no pesky story bloat in the middle. Perfect level of spice for those who want all the feels and hot kisses but not the actual sex on the page.
This reads just fine as a standalone, too! Like the first book in the series.
