Historia
If my childhood taught me anything, it was to survive. Now I have a deep-rooted mistrust of people and a wall of steel and ice surrounding my heart. So, when Reed Ryan steps into my life, I know I need to keep him far away. He’s everything I grew up hating. Fighting. Fleeing. Devastatingly handsome, he looks like a drunken regret and has heartbreak written over every inch of his body - literally. He’s the quintessential bad boy...and he’s a cop. But the man is my undoing.

Female narrator always talking as if she's getting chased
Revisado: 12-27-24
Can't stand the narrators. They're always grunting and breathing heavily and the emotions in their voices don't match what's actually going on. It's almost as if they're reading a horror story and you're in the middle of the action - though nothing special is happening. Don't recommend this book, despite being included in Plus catalog.

Ties together all previous books perfectly
Revisado: 10-17-24
A lot of characters and you should definitely have listened to the previous books fairly recently to remember what happened when and to whom. Prefered the previous books better storywise but it's definitely worth a listen. Not as much as a standalone as the other books maybe but it's still good. Caroline Lee does really good narration as usual!

Historia
Ever since I met my handsome husband Dr Gabe Bonneville, I started playing the role of the perfect housewife. He works hard as a surgeon, so I look after our home, and throw elaborate dinner parties with champagne cocktails for his best friends Hugh and Anita. He’s my safe place and my chance to have the family I’ve always wanted. I’ve managed to hide the mornings when I wake up and see a face in the shadows. I haven’t told Gabe the truth about the woman who raised me, or told him about the therapy I’ve been getting so my secrets stay hidden in the dark.

Historia
On a warm spring evening, guests gather in a perfectly manicured garden to celebrate Maggie and Len’s twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. Maggie leans against the apple tree, watching her fun-loving husband and darling children as her heart swells with pride. Slipping upstairs to find the special gift for her adoring husband, Maggie stumbles across something else hidden amongst the dusty boxes of family keepsakes.

Not too sure about the narrator - good at times, other times I'm not fully buying it. But storywise this is so good. Absolutely worth a listen but listen to the previous books first!

Historia
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

If you like other K.L Slater books, you will absolutely love this one! Keeps you on your toes and really feels like a classic crime solving book, with the perspective from the survivors rather than a detectives POV.

The first group are all astronauts, about to leave Earth on a one-way interstellar colonization mission. The second group consists of convicted murderers and volunteers who elect to serve their sentences in a virtual-reality prison.

Good - then it goes downhill
Revisado: 01-05-24
Good if you want a background noise to whatever you're doing. Has potential until it goes downhill about 75% of the way. Performance was good though not great. Uses a lot of sound effects which weren't to my liking. A good story and book weaves you in without the sugar coating of sound effects. Can't recommend, unfortunately.

Historia
When Pete Etchells was 13, his father died from motor neurone disease. In order to cope, he immersed himself in a virtual world - first as an escape, but later to try to understand what had happened. Etchells is now a researcher into the psychological effects of video games, and was co-author on a recent paper explaining why WHO plans to classify "game addiction" as a danger to public health are based on bad science and (he thinks) are a bad idea. In this, his first book, he journeys through the history and development of video games via scientific study....
