Historia
Jamie Waterman has made an important discovery on Mars. A cliff dwelling reveals the fact that an intelligent race lived on the red planet 65 million years ago, only to be driven into extinction by the crash of a giant meteor. But now the exploration of Mars is itself under threat of extinction, as the ultraconservative New Morality movement gains control of the U.S. government and cuts off all funding for the Mars program.

Revisado: 01-13-23
The new Morality anti-christianity thing is getting old. A man as smart and creative as Above should be able to come up with more creative ways to create tension.

if you like the other books you'll love this one. I have gotten used to the multiple narrators, but think one would be better. That said, the production is well done.

The galaxy is doomed. Monkeys may be clever and too stubborn to give up, but Skippy The Idiot Who Got Played knows the harsh truth: this is a fight he can’t win. The odds are not only stacked against him, he was designed not to win this fight. Maybe he can salvage some faint memory of the civilizations that inhabit the galaxy, but those beings are doomed. Doomed. Including the Merry Band of Pirates.

Historia
For centuries, men and women have manned lighthouses to ensure the safe passage of ships. It's a lonely job, and a thankless one for the most part - until something goes wrong, until a ship is in distress. In the 23rd century, this job has moved into outer space. A network of beacons allows ships to travel across the Milky Way at many times the speed of light. These beacons are built to be robust. They never break down. They never fail. At least, they aren't supposed to.

Great right up until the terrible ending.
Revisado: 12-01-22
Such an amazing story until the end. (Spoiler). Seems like an anti-war author justifying mass murder to end war? Makes sense. The story was amazing right up to the point the Alien suggested killing Billions as a way to prove we were trust worthy to stop war. Uh, what? This story really was great and almost heart warming until this crazy left turn. Hugh, WHY?!

Nancy Kranich (played by Emmy-nominated actress Natasha Lyonne of Russian Doll and Orange Is the New Black) is a night nurse on an orbiting space station. But Nancy hates her job, is sick of space, and longs to find adventure and a safe place to smoke cigarettes that won’t blow everyone up. But when Nancy gets caught up in an outer-space conspiracy involving President Kennedy, former vice-president Richard Nixon, and an intergalactic object that could change the course of history, she gets way more adventure than she bargained for.

Revisado: 10-18-22
Great voicing, laugh out loud story to much and unnecessary cursing. Story is moderately original but character driven and the characters are excellent and well done. Nixon, who moderates, was my favorite.

Anti-religion sci-fi. Not Bova's best but solid.
Revisado: 09-27-22
Anti-religion sci-fi. Not Bova's best but solid. The New Morality is such a ridiculous bundle of stereotypes that it becomes annoying. Also the eventual leader of the "sub" is such a terrible leader it seems impossible that they would agree to go into Jupiter with her. In spite of this it has some good moments and I don't feel like I completely wasted my time listening. The performance is fine and mich better the the three headed monster used in the previous book.

enjoyable story decent characters and character development. Performance/voicing was very good, being nitpicky, there were some editing and transition issues with audio levels. I will be buying the next book in the series.

An enjoyable second book but missing something
Revisado: 07-05-22
I enjoyed the first book but the overall production was not great. the production of this book is better, but it is just another space battle story we're the main character is always right and indispensable don't get me wrong there is drama etc, just nothing new. I guess after reading the description.of the series and reading the first book that this would be more of a colony story not just a space battle. if I want space battles I would read/listen too X. Nuttall. His Ark Royal and Learning Experience series are far superior to this. But I was hoping for a wider more diverse story of life in space. This is not that. I am not penalizing the book for that. It has earned the four stars on it own merit.

Escaping wrongful imprisonment wasn't something Connor had in mind, but being put into stasis aboard Earth's first interstellar colony ship was something he couldn't have prepared for. For 300,000 colonists, the new colony brings the promise of a fresh start...a second chance. Connor might be the wrong man for the colony, but he's the right man to see that it survives what's coming.

Enjoyable enough that I want to see where the series goes. Narration is adequately done to discern the characters but also not top notch. audio levels are high and editing is obvious due to different levels.
