Historia
An intricate tale of love, haunting memories, and renewal, Second Glance begins in current-day Vermont, where an old man puts a piece of land up for sale and unintentionally raises protest from the local Abenaki Indian tribe, who insist it's a burial ground. When odd, supernatural events plague the town of Comtosook, a ghost hunter is hired by the developer to help convince the residents that there's nothing spiritual about the property.

Historia
Caroline Evans is a single mom trying to raise her 15-year-old daughter, Issy, as best she can. Her ex-husband, James, was a philandering charmer, and a wealthy one at that. But Caroline couldn't put up with his cheating and left him, taking Issy with her. Now, they live in the countryside outside London, where Caroline has built a modestly successful catering business, and Issy is now at an all-girls boarding school. Things are beginning to feel normal. But then James mysteriously appears on her doorstep....

An enjoyable book!
Revisado: 07-08-22
I really enjoyed the book, one of those you can just check out of life and listen to. the narrator, while pleasant to listen to, wasn't great. Her pauses were often inappropriate and the sentences didn't flow, and she mispronounced a few words as well, which was annoying, but I still enjoyed the book.

A tough, sordid listen
Revisado: 06-22-22
This was an excellently written book, excellently performed, but a very tough listen. I was not expecting the plot twists and was more and more horrified by the story and the lead character. "Mission accomplished!" says the author. It's intriguing.

Good book, terrible narrator
Revisado: 05-01-22
I enjoyed the story, but the narration was terrible. Emphasis wasn't right, a lot of English words mispronounced, it was just... uncomfortable to listen to. I'd give it another go with a different narrator.

I knew the abridged version, this is far better
Revisado: 01-08-22
I really enjoyed listening to this. It's been on my bucket list since high school French but I've never made the time to sit and read it. Listening to this version, unabridged, with different narrators kept the book following and make the endless detail and historical explanations not only palatable, but enjoyable. Definitely worth the time, and a lot of it is ok at 1.10 speed too. Invest in it if you enjoy the classics. I might even read it again.

Historia
Boisterous, ribald, and ultimately shattering, Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest has left an indelible mark on the literature of our time. Turning conventional notions of sanity and insanity on their heads, the novel tells the unforgettable story of a mental ward and its inhabitants, especially tyrannical Big Nurse Ratched and Randle Patrick McMurphy, the brawling, fun-loving new inmate who resolves to oppose her.

I've seen the movie a few times so knew the premise and ending, but listening to the book narrated by John C Reilly brought the story home in a completely different way. The is easily one of my new favourite reads.
