A shadow has fallen at the edges of the Empire of Gis. The city of Kulaba is threatened by an enemy that has been pushed too far. They have embraced a dark God only bent on destruction. The Empire sends the Burner Mashda with an army of conscripts to secure the city and stop this evil from spreading. Zizi finds himself as one of the conscripts, pulled from his home, and searching for why they fight. But what they find will challenge the very foundations of their beliefs.

Rich, interesting world!

This book does a great job at creating rich cultures, landscapes, and languages that suck you right into the world. A little slow in the beginning, the story picks up quickly and I listened all the way through in a couple of days. Highly recommend!
