špatný přednes, nudný "příběh", rušivý překlad

Nějak nechápu, proč je to takový hit, přitom mám fantasy ráda. Za celou dobu se skoro nic nestalo. Úmorné dialogy o ničem, skoky v čase, které čtenář pozná až o kapitolu později, nevyrovnané tempo, ploché postavy. Překlad zmateného, rušivého stylu - jako proč nevzít tunu anglikanismů, archaismů a přechodníků a nezabít to ještě hantecem? A pan Finger? Postavy zní buď znuděně, nebo vyjeveně, popisy zas jako nudný výklad učitele, co by se spíš uživil jako uspávač hadů - ale co, třeba jsem jen rozmazlená anglickými audioknihami. Závěr: ani se nemůžu rozhodnout, který z pánů to zprasil víc.

No story to speak of

I was looking for a lot of science and a deep story about survival on Mars. I didn't get that. The science is not detailed /explained enough, so it's just a boring list of terminology, and the story is made up of a lot of unilateral characters and their disjointed interactions. It's too long and too short at the same time - some periods are stretched out without any real substance, and than suddenly ten years goes by in a flash. Plus the author adds a lot of ideological discussions that are just annoying.

Overall, this book would be a lot better if it was a third of it's length, or made into a long series.

it doesn't move anywhere. weird names for everything, impossible to follow descriptions and an annoying narrator. I gave up after a few hours...

Bad narrator, mediocre story

The narrator is really bad, it's as if she was trying to read slowly and failing miserably. Couple words are fast, than one slow, than an unnecessary pause... She also lowers and raises her tone constantly, without any connection to what she's reading. The accent also scraped my nerves.

The story itself is not bad, but I found it short and not really original. I'd say, it's an okay book to pass the time

full of nonsense

it's a fast paced book that is good enough as long as you read it without thinking. As soon as you start thinking about the plot, you realise it's absolutely absurd. Nothing would have happened like that if there was a solar flare. Plus it's full of stupid mistakes - e.g. picking an entire cherry tree in ten minutes and having only a couple handfuls of cherries...

The only thing that stuck in my memory is the copied scene from Matrix. Most of the book is like listening to an action movie. In other words it's boring. On the other hand if you love action, you will probably like it

too much religious mumbo jumbo

i found the narrator annoying, the chapters had weird abrupt endings and pauses at the beginning, the story itself was boring and full of religious nonsense
