Historia
They were a perfect and beautiful family - until a heartbreaking tragedy shattered their happiness. Now, for the sake of an inheritance that will ensure their future, the children must be hidden away out of sight, as if they never existed. They are kept in the attic of their grandmother’s labyrinthine mansion, isolated and alone. As the visits from their seemingly unconcerned mother slowly dwindle, the four children grow ever closer and depend upon one another to survive both this cramped world and their cruel grandmother.

Emotionally intense
Revisado: 11-08-24
This was a good listen and was well worth a credit. The narrator has a very nice feminine voice that was very fitting for this novel. This story pulls at the heart strings. To be frank, it’s quite sad but sad in a way that makes listening to it well worth it. If you’re looking for a taboo romance novel look elsewhere because this is not it. Although the story features aspects of the inferred topic, it is definitely not the type that is hot and spicy. I’d say the predominant theme of the novel is family dysfunction and with that falls all the other related sub themes. What made this novel cut deeper into my emotions is its possibility to be real or have been real in the past. So many lives all around the world right now and thousands and thousands of years gone past. One imagines all the ugly unfair lives people live and have lived. I gave it 4 stars because 5 stars to me is something like Tolstoy’s work.

Empire of the Air tells the story of three American visionaries - Lee de Forest, Edwin Howard Armstrong, and David Sarnoff - whose imagination and dreams turned a hobbyist's toy into radio, launching the modern communications age. Tom Lewis weaves the story of these men and their achievements into a richly detailed and moving narrative that spans the first half of the 20th century, a time when the American romance with science and technology was at its peak.

I thought it was a great course 😀
Revisado: 09-23-23
Contrary to the low reviews left here by the super intellectuals, I think for the average person looking for something edifying to listen to this is a great course. Narrator brought up many aspects of day to day relationships that I, and I think we can take for granted. Some of us neglect these aspects simply because they’ve never been brought up or pointed out to us.
Overall I thought it was a enjoyable listen.

Why are we scared of ghosts, zombies, vampires, demons, and monsters, when we know they are not real? Why do dark attics give us the creeps? How do writers and directors know exactly what anxieties to tap into, so that we break out in goosebumps, cover our eyes, and cringe? Shannon Scott invites you into the spooky, creepy, and sometimes surprising world of the horror genre to examine how popular scary movies and books manipulate our collective and individual fears—not only to frighten us, but also to address taboo subjects, and to reflect and comment on the state of our society.

barf. If you want a good listen on a similar topic listen to American monsters by Adam Jortner. He actually explains how horror works in popular culture.

Historia
Hailed as one of the world’s masterpieces of psychological realism, The Death of Ivan Ilyich is the story of a worldly careerist, a high-court judge who has never given the inevitability of his death so much as a passing thought. But one day death announces itself to him, and to his shocked surprise he is brought face-to-face with his own mortality. How, Tolstoy asks, does an unreflective man confront his one and only moment of truth?

Historia
For us Jews who grew up in Israel, Jesus and his word were never part of the conversation. Not in our school system, not in our synagogues, and not in our media. Nor do we have easy access to the New Testament. Jesus has been studiously avoided and hidden from our people. After almost 2,000 years, Jesus, or as we call him in Hebrew, Yeshua, can no longer be hidden from the people! Now, we can explain the Gospel to our people in a way that makes sense to them, in our own native tongues of Hebrew and Arabic, as only Israelis can and help our people understand who Yeshua really is.
