Historia
James Dommek, Jr., an Alaska Native writer and musician, sheds new light on a real-life mystery that pits Native American folklore against the US justice system. In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

Great listen!

I usually listen to audiobooks while doing other things like cooking or housework and my attention can wander. Not with this book! Easy to follow and great storytelling.

Enjoyable story, mediocre narration
Revisado: 09-20-20
The Coffeehouse Mysteries series is an enjoyable way to pass some time. Great snowy afternoon binge. I’ve learned about coffee and cooking through these books - you can practically smell these scenes. I make pasta sauce recipe (I think in book 1). I picked this one at random for my first Audible version. The narration was fine but not particularly engaging, and I think Claire’s ex-mother-in-law is from France but seems to have a British accent here?
I think I’ll stick to the print/Kindle version unless a long afternoon of baking is ahead of me.

Historia
Conversations with RBG is a remarkable and unique audiobook, an informal portrait of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, drawing on a series of her conversations with Jeffrey Rosen, starting in the 1990s and continuing through the Trump era. Rosen, a veteran legal journalist, scholar, and president of the National Constitution Center, shares with us the justice’s observations on a variety of topics, and her intellect, compassion, sense of humor, and humanity shine through.

I love her words, but this delivery not so much
Revisado: 09-19-20
Audiobooks fit my life better these days, but in this instance I’d prefer to read with my eyes and let my brain give RBG a voice. The narration seems so stiff. It’s not terrible, just not working for me the day after RBG’s death.
The author is very lucky to have had these experiences and I thank him for sharing.

Historia
A wicked Scottish winter has just begun when pioneering female physician Sophia Jex-Blake calls on Detective Inspector Ian Hamilton to investigate the suspicious death of one of her patients - a railroad lineman who she believes succumbed to the horrific effects of arsenic poisoning. The most provocative aspect of the case doesn’t escape Hamilton: the married victim’s numerous sexual transgressions. Now, for the first time since the unexplained fire that killed his parents, Hamilton enters the Royal Infirmary to gain the insights of brilliant medical student Arthur Conan Doyle.

Returning this Title -Didn’t Even Make it Through the First Half
Revisado: 09-18-20
I enjoyed Edinburgh Twilight. It was way too long and the performance was a little over the top at times, but you could at least follow the story because the narrator gave the characters fairly distinct voices. And he did a decent job on the female characters, not like some others.
In contrast, the narration in Edinburgh Dusk sounds pretty much the same whether he’s reading character dialog or descriptive scenes. It took too much focus to figure out whether this was DI Hamilton talking or any other character. I dozed off and woke up just in time for the very disturbing child molestation scene.
This narrator is much better suited for nonfiction than anything requiring a dramatic reading. I was not drawn into the plot, could not follow the action, and just don’t care about the story enough to finish this book. It’s not worth it to me and I will return this for something else.

Historia
Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Surêté du Québec and his team of investigators are called in to the scene of a suspicious death in a rural village south of Montreal. Jane Neal, a local fixture in the tiny hamlet of Three Pines, just north of the U.S. border, has been found dead in the woods. The locals are certain it’s a tragic hunting accident and nothing more, but Gamache smells something foul in these remote woods, and is soon certain that Jane Neal died at the hands of someone much more sinister than a careless bowhunter.

Better when read yourself
Revisado: 12-08-19
Sadly, I enjoyed this much more when I read it myself. The audiobook performance was a little flat. But if you don’t have the time to read, it will still be enjoyable if you can pay attention.

Major disappointment
Revisado: 10-08-19
The narration was awful and the story was just ok. Couldn’t tell the male characters apart, they all sounded like Chris from the other books., and she made no effort to approximate accents, pronunciation, or personality established in the earlier books.
The storyline, especially Marcus’ backstory was stuck in 1st gear for more than half the book. I went from liking Phoebe to just wanting her to die and be gone.
