Historia
Twenty-five years ago, when Pat Robertson and other televangelists first spoke of the United States being a Christian nation that would build a global Christian empire, it was hard to take such hyperbolic rhetoric seriously. Today, such language no longer sounds like hyperbole but poses, instead, a very real threat to our freedoms and our way of life.

Revisado: 03-08-25
Chris Hedges describes the Christian fascists who are poised to destroy our weak and thoroughly flawed democracy and replace it with an authoritarian Christian theocratic state. He closes with the words, “Tolerance is a virtue, but tolerance coupled with passivity is a vice.” It is a warning and a call to action.

White savior narrative well narrated
Revisado: 06-17-24
Like Macondo full of Gringos. Characters with any narrative depth or complexity are nearly all foreigners while local inhabitants (Mayans) are treated largely as one-dimensional plot devices or background exotica; generally in roles as servants, employees and service people.
Synopsis (spoiler alert): White lady comes to a Mayan village, inherits a hotel from another heroic white lady and saves the day for her Mayan servants and underlings who love her dearly.
Also, the story utterly ignores the historic and ongoing genocide perpetrated against the Mayan people by European and US colonizers for 600 years and counting.
Writer performs her story well.

Historia
Justice for Some offers a new approach to understanding the Palestinian struggle for freedom, told through the power and control of international law. Focusing on key junctures—from the Balfour Declaration in 1917 to present-day wars in Gaza—Noura Erakat shows how the strategic deployment of law has shaped current conditions. Over the past century, the law has done more to advance Israel's interests than the Palestinians'. But, Erakat argues, this outcome was never inevitable.

Excellent book bizarrely NOT narrated by the author
Revisado: 10-12-23
This book is extremely well written and the information it provides is invaluable. The writing is tight and factually rich. If you are looking for a book that clearly describes the historical and legal underpinnings of the apartheid state of Israel, you won’t find a better source.
While the reader is clearly capable of reading the words on the page, if this book had been read by the author, Noura Erakat, it would’ve been far, far better. Noura is a powerful, emotive and concise speaker. In her voice, you can clearly hear and feel her knowledge of and compassion for the Palestinian cause and people. It is utterly bewildering why the publisher chose to use a detached, upper crust British voice instead of the author’s clearly-engaged-with-the-subject voice (did they think it would bring gravitas? It doesn’t). Noura’s not even British and Christine Rendel, the reader, is neither Palestinian nor an Arab speaker. Hopefully, this bizarre decision will be rectified in a future release of this book; the sooner the better.

Revisado: 07-11-23
It’s not deep. It’s not insightful or even very revealing. It’s William Shatner reminiscing and expounding on his 91 years and his feelings about the world. He utterly fascinates … himself. Hopefully, he will amuse you.

Historia
Welcome to the summer of 1985 in Philadelphia, when the city was rocked—in almost every sense of the word—by two unprecedented events: Mayor W. Wilson Goode’s May 13 decision to bomb the headquarters of MOVE, a controversial Philadelphia-based radical communal organization, and the July 13 Live Aid concert, where international rock royalty convened in Philly to raise money for victims of the Ethiopian famine. Separated by just two months and eight miles, these events would showcase both the best and the worst of the so-called City of Brotherly Love.

Kowtows to white authority
Revisado: 06-27-23
This story is told to strongly from the perspective of police and white power. It pretends to be objective, but it always giving the cops the last word. And, why do we need to hear anything about Farm Aid in a documentary about the police bombing of MOVE and the destruction of an entire Black neighborhood?
The description of Black acts at Live Aid was nice.

Well explained, concise and well read.
Revisado: 06-26-23
This book on both child and adult ADD is well explained, concise and well narrated. If you are looking for a good introductory volume, this is it.
Dr. Mate’s other books (especially The Myth of Normal) are equally insightful and informative and complement this one very well.

Historia
Trina FastHorse Goldberg-Oneka is a fifty-year-old trans woman whose life is irreversibly altered in the wake of a gentle--but nonetheless world-changing--invasion by an alien entity called The Seep. Through The Seep, everything is connected. Capitalism falls, hierarchies and barriers are broken down; if something can be imagined, it is possible. Trina and her wife, Deeba, live blissfully under The Seep’s utopian influence--until Deeba begins to imagine what it might be like to be reborn as a baby, which will give her the chance at an even better life.

Clever and very carefully says nothing at all, like bad TV
Revisado: 02-08-23
Clever premise but so shallow in execution that it is pointless. It analyzes, nothing; no political, economic, philosophical or social analysis. The world is taken over by an alien conqueror. They wipe out Capitalism and replace it with everything-is-free; and make all kinds of weird and clever things happen, But, ultimately nothing is changed fundamentally. It’s an audiobook of a really stupid television show that is yet to be made.

Good basic health info; too much product placement.
Revisado: 01-29-23
Good basic health info; too much product placement. Narrator reads well. If you use the info for changes to diet and lifestyle this book can be helpful. As much as possible, avoid supplements being sold here as a easy quick fix and eat the fresh whole foods noted that contain the nutrients discussed. Don’t substitute one regimen of pills for another. Don’t make this book another stressor in your life. Summary: eat less, eat whole food, get exercise, get out and see people, get good sleep, find allies. This book can help but it’s really mostly a list of all the things you already know you should be doing. Read this book if you think it will motivate you to action. The words in themselves won’t help you.
