Excellent story, superbly written, and narrated!
Revisado: 12-22-17
over the years I've read a lot and more recently with the help of audible, and due to my occupation, I have the opportunity to read nearly constantly. Of all the books I've read...this one stands out! Great story, believable characters, and an outstanding narrator. I had never heard of this author, but I sure have now and i am a fan. No matter the genre i will almost certainly purchase his next book. They are a little short for the expenditure of a credit, but I will buy it , nonetheless . The story, while post apocalyptic and not necessarily in my favorites category, would have been a good well told yarn , no matter what the genre...mystery, thriller, sci-fi...you name it. the author is just a good storyteller. I totally reject some of the negative aspects pointed out by one or two others...i just shake my head and wonder if they have even read the book or perhaps have some hidden agenda. The protagonists flash backs alone debunk the assertion that he's too perfect. less than optimum Decisions he makes and admits to during the main body of the story show his fallibility. The only totalitarianism was shown by the invading armies of the enemy. Pulling together and helping one another during times of extreme crises is not collectivism...its crises survival not govt imposed living. each could leave at any time they wanted. If they wanted to eat and benefit from the labor of others ..they must work. otherwise they were welcome to leave and provide for themselves. it wasn't govt enforced collectivism!. it was individual survival in the face of extreme duress. The author did a magnificent job of throwing some survival tips in as part of the story line. He didn't go off on any chapter long descriptions of survival doctrine in this or that situation!. Situations came up and were just matter of factly handled using this or that survival technique as part of the story, not as a separate lecture on survival. All in all I'm glad I read this story. it's one of my favorites among many thousands of books. For the price of one credit...you. Can. not. lose! this 4 book box set is the deal of the year as far as I'm concerned.

Historia
Gates of Fire puts you at the side of valiant Spartan warriors in 480 BC for the bloody, climactic battle at Thermopylae. There, a few hundred of Sparta’s finest sacrificed their lives to hold back the invading Persian millions. The time they bought enabled the Greeks to rally - saving, according to ancient historian Herodotus, “Western democracy and freedom from perishing in the cradle.” How did the Spartans accomplish this superhuman feat? This is what the King of Persia hopes to learn from the sole Spartan survivor.

Written in two parts, Triplanetary introduces the concept of two warring alien races: the Arisians and the Eddorians, whose battles on Earth are unknown to the human race, and in fact the humans are unaware that the Arisians have been secretly and selectively breeding the humans to use as weapons for these battles. From the time of Rome to World War II, the author takes the listener on a lightning-fast journey through Earth's history as the warzone for aliens.

I've been waiting and hoping, for years to listen to my all time favorite series narrated by someone that treats it with respect and not as a japanese cartoon. I look forward to the release of the other books in this series.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

I have been to Mars!
Revisado: 03-14-14
If you could sum up The Martian in three words, what would they be?
Pure realistic escapism!
What did you like best about this story?
He pulls you into his story, wraps you up in pure escapism, and sends to mars with such descriptive realism that you feel like you are mark and actually there, on Mars. Few have ever drawn me into the story they are telling, with such skill. Bravo Mr Weir. Bravo.
What does R. C. Bray bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Mr Bray does an excellent. Emphasis and voice characterizations were spot on. Great job.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Both actually. This book has it all. I expect this book to be an all time classic. It is with me!
Any additional comments?
I read some of the reviews, that's what prompted me to buy the book. After reading the book I agree with all the complimentary views (I didn't see any negative ones but I did not read all) and would suggest you believe them and buy this book. You will not be disappointed. One of the best I have ever read! No B.S.

Historia
Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer. Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries....

this first book was an absolute joy to listen to.
Revisado: 01-16-12
Would you consider the audio edition of Hounded to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print version.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Hounded?
when the goddess was having trouble with the blender...when the death goddess was so turned on by his (atticus')defeat of the god angus, she told him she was gonna seduce him on the morrow...and the final paragraph ending with..there are only five? o.m.g.gufffffaww.
Have you listened to any of Luke Daniels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
never have had the pleasure of listening to one of his performances before and have to applaud his narrative skills, voice characterizations, and would strongly urge you to continue using his services. definitely have him on my list of favorites.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
absolutely! I'm not what you would regard as a fan of any one genre, I just enjoy reading a good yarn, from any category. this was/is now one of my favorite books. thoroughly enjoyed the story, the narrator, and especially the irreveverant humor. I love humorous asides and this guy slings them around like confetti. I burst out laughng many times, and using the dog oberon as his vehicle or tool to inject his humour was just too perfect. all in all a perfectly enjoyable entertaining flight into the world of fantasy. the narrators voice characterization of the mental communication between oberon and atticus was at the least, very good. I thought it was just right, personally, even though some had issues with it, and can't imagine a better voice characterization, especially given the implied limits on oberons umm ..mental attainments and his priorites of life.
Any additional comments?
probably the most remarkable thing about this book are the reviews. I could understand a single star appearing in the reviews of a book that has at its core, lots of twos and threes. not one with 9 out of 10 5 star reviews and then suddenly a 1. this oddity caught my attention immediately so I. read some of the single star reviews...and almost didn't buy the book. the primary reason I went ahead and bought the book was the price. single digits and lots of 5 star reviews combined to convince me to take a chance on the book. I wouldn't have known, of course, what I was missing (and am somewhat...dismayed...that their is that much difference between what is enjoyable and what is not, to disparate readerships. this has taught me a lesson...even when a poor review sounds reasonable...one must consider the possibility that there could be a hidden agenda, either personal or political, at play, and to consider all aspects when deliberating a purchase.) I, now shudder to think, I almost passed this one over ,because of a reasonably worded negative review...

Historia
In a scrap heap within an abandoned factory, the greatest invention in history lies dormant and unused. By what fatal error of judgment has its value gone unrecognized, its brilliant inventor punished rather than rewarded for his efforts? In defense of those greatest of human qualities that have made civilization possible, one man sets out to show what would happen to the world if all the heroes of innovation and industry went on strike.

I had heard of the book and author, but had never taken the ,quite considerable, time necessary to read the book. I'm dissappointed in myself, for having put it off so long. without audible, I expect, I would still be procrastinating,(I've always wanted/meant to read this book) putting it off. absolutely great book, without a doubt, one of the best I've ever 'read'(audible) .a must must read, especially given todays headlines both in this country and outside this country. if you can stand taking a peek inside the mind of an author that has a handle on human nature, and how to describe it in laymans terms, this is your chance. though I have only listened to the unabridged version read by scott brick, I can truthfully say....bravo mr. brick, bravo. I can't praise his skills as a reader enough.absolutely a wonderful read, thanks in equal parts to the late ayn rand and the great narrative skills of mr brick. I'm really impressed. j.c.elliott
