Historia
Considered to be the first autobiographical work in history, this timeless book is completely applicable to everyone who has experienced the struggle between good and evil in his own soul. Saint Augustine, born in Constantine in 354 C.E., was raised by a devout Christian mother. He abandoned the Christianity of his upbringing and had an illegitimate son. After hearing the sermons of Ambrose, he began his great internal struggle which led to his conversion in 387 C.E. The Confessions describe his conversion, shedding light on the questions that had troubled him on his way to the Cross. Outside Scripture it is the most famous - and perhaps the most important - of all spiritual books.

Great book, but antiquated English
Revisado: 06-08-05
I think this book would be fantastic, but this version's English is completely antiquated... like the King James Bible, with 'thee' and 'thou'... it's hard to understand much of it. It's also a bit boring, although Augustine is brilliant... but seriously, how interesting is a theft of some pears?

This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need to be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.

I like Eugene Peterson's books, and I like 'The Message', but it's boring to listen to. The narrator just doesn't know how to hold a listener's attention. Try 'The Listener's NIV Bible' or, even better, Wangerin's 'The Book of God'.

Historia
The Book of God reads like a novel, dramatizing the sweep of biblical events, bringing to life the men and women of this ancient book in vivid detail and dialogue. From Abraham wandering in the desert to Jesus teaching the multitudes on a Judean hillside, this award-winning bestseller follows the biblical story from start to finish.

Absolutely Wonderful
Revisado: 04-30-05
I loved listening to this book. It made the characters from the Old and New Testaments come alive. Wangerin is a fantastic storyteller, and he manages to weave together the many lives and events that make up the Bible into a wonderful narrative. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to understand the overall story of the Bible.
