Another Gruesome Good One
Revisado: 12-18-24
Blackmore’s one of my favorites storytellers and this book is on par with his other top works, which IMHO includes the first in this series. Not surprisingly, the book is violently gruesome and the characters suffer loads of physical abuse. Despite it all, I still love the main characters.

Solid
Revisado: 07-31-24
I’ve read all of his other books and liked them. This one was as good, and it’s nice to get the same quality and mix of engaging excitement with interesting philosophical introspection. The change to a fantasy/magical setting further proves to me that DJ Molles is a legit author who consistently provides interesting and enjoyable books (pretty much what I’m always seeking). Also nice that it’s a single novel. I can’t recall the last single novel I read it’s been that long, so it was a nice change of pace (and still totally satisfying, for those like me, who generally like the depth offered by long series).

Trust the five star folks appreciating this as a fun, funny and solid fantasy series. The writing and story telling are high level while on the face sometime seeming otherwise. It’s smart while being fun throughout. A tough task successfully done.

Cringy Dialogue, Unoriginal But Not Entirely Unentertaining
Revisado: 01-24-24
I almost turned it off, but the mystery of the characters held me by the thinnest string. I’m curious to know about the characters, so that’s something, and the story elements are up my alley (and the reason I took a chance on it), but I can’t count the number of times I winced at the schlocky dialogue. No lie, many lines would be the worst from a bad YA action movie. Initially I thought I might be overly sensitive, but some of the most egregious dialogue came at the end when I knew what I’d signed up for, and it was so bad, part of me wondered if it was intentionally bad. Totally speculation and probably wrong, but maybe the author is a non-native English speaker, and doesn’t realize how simple and tired the expressions are (butterfly effect?!!), in which case I commend her. Better than I could have written, but that’s small praise indeed.

Better and Better
Revisado: 08-19-23
This series just keeps getting better and better. I now have no doubt that Zogarth is a very legit and talented author. I like the game lit genre, but I also feel like the common structure and tropes make it a little easier for authors (although even some of the less impressive books can be enjoyable). In my mind, Zogarth has cemented his place as a truly superb author with this series, and the most recent installments in particular. For comparison's sake, one of my other favorites is Dinniman's Dungeon Crawler Carl series (which is probably my #1).

In those halls of darkness, where children are taken from the world and given to shadow and dust, Asher is destined for that same fate. He will become the myth. He will become the legend. He will become the whisper of Death itself.

Good
Revisado: 02-09-23
I liked it. On par with the author’s other works. Also solid for a prequel, which can be tough to make good (or so it seems; I’m no author). I bought the next in the series and expect I’ll read the rest.

The galaxy is doomed. Monkeys may be clever and too stubborn to give up, but Skippy The Idiot Who Got Played knows the harsh truth: this is a fight he can’t win. The odds are not only stacked against him, he was designed not to win this fight. Maybe he can salvage some faint memory of the civilizations that inhabit the galaxy, but those beings are doomed. Doomed. Including the Merry Band of Pirates.

Solid and Funny
Revisado: 07-22-20
I read/listen to a lot of books in this general genre (urban fantasy?), and many are decent but don't quite deliver the quality the reader hopes as s/he continues through the book. This one definitely delivers. It's a bit smarter than usual; less predictable; the characters are more authentic; and it's rather funny. If the author had another book on Audible, it'd likely be my next download. I could see Mr. Munz becoming a notable author in the genre. The narrator (Travis Baldree) also did an exceptional job (to the point that I intend to look at his other works).
