A 5-star listen and a fantastic story.
Revisado: 08-29-22
Poppy Royana does it again. There is simply no other narrator who could do the spunky, equally fierce and vulnerable heroines of Brogan Thomas' Otherworld series any sort of justice.
Even when characters from previous stories come together, she still gives each one a very distinct voice, and makes it easy for the listener to get swept away by the twists that weave throughout the action.
If audiobooks are your preferred method of consuming a fantastic story, this is one I can't recommend enough.

For more than 20 years, I lived by my Air Force code. Until I made a choice. Put my family first. Something a soldier is never allowed to do. Now I don’t know who I am. Or where I belong. Getting lost in Mexico sounds like a good idea, but with only guilt and regret as my constant companions, I’ll never figure it all out. Until a chance meeting in a hotel bar changes my course.

Sebastian York and Lidia Dornet were brilliant!
Revisado: 02-12-22
It's been over a year since I read this book, and revisiting its suspense and delicate romance via audiobook made an otherwise dreary day of chores actually rather enjoyable.
Sebastian York and Lidia Dornet were absolutely brilliant in bringing Austin and Mikayla to life. As in the other books where I've heard his work, York was able to hit that growly protector vibe in every breath, and Dornet carried Mik's confident yet reserved - and later, flirtatious - nature so well. From their first meeting, to their slowly budding romance and eventual jungle rescue, I was completely enraptured by the story once again.
I highly recommend giving this a listen if you enjoy romantic suspense.

Annabeth had no idea her life was about to change forever. As a slave of the aliens who were in power, she had headed down into the tunnels to mine the valuable mantatite, as demanded. But an encounter with the new senai during which she was knocked unconscious set off a chain of events that drew her into the orbit of the hated M’Nai. The senai in question was Kane who had reported for his first day on duty in the tunnels. Subconscious instincts emerged as he laid eyes on the unconscious human he had inadvertently knocked out.

It's a unique and capitvating story.
Revisado: 02-09-22
While I've previously enjoyed reading this book, I welcomed the chance to revisit the story via audiobook. The narrator was new to me, and I felt she did a decent job at carrying the various voices of the story.
Once again, I found myself caught up in the action - and the injustices - that the book told. An alien race - under the guise of protection for Earth against a more dangerous species - have taken over the planet, landing all humans (as the "inferior" race) into a form of servitude. Luxuries stripped, camps formed and respected deference is expected towards those that aim to save them from this unknown threat.
Enter our main characters. Kane is every bit the fierce, protective warrior you'd expect in a paranormal romance, and Annabeth's self-awareness and growth beside him becomes more evident as the novel goes on. It doesn't hurt that the M'Nai's (aliens) are similarly built as humans, though told to be far more beautiful and god-like in appearance. The romance between the two is forbidden, for more reasons than one, and stripping away those layers becomes an interesting story of hidden truths, politics and buried memories.
I very much look forward to where this series is headed next.

Poppy Royana once again knocked it out of the park
Revisado: 01-16-22
Between the husband and the kid, I've had too many extra ears around to settle in with an audiobook as of late, so it's taken me some time to revisit Cursed Vampire. Having just spent the weekend finally enjoying the Tru's sass as the backdrop to my various tasks, I can confirm once again that Poppy Royana knocked it out of the park.
From the stress and heartbreak at the beginning of book to the colorful cast of characters littered throughout Tru's journey, I thought Poppy did a fantastic job of bringing this story and each of those voices fully to life. It isn't always as possible to lose yourself to an audiobook as you can to the page, but I've found it's all too easy to become completely enraptured by listening to this series.
Whether you're an avid reader or audiobook listener, I highly recommend every bit of this series.

An instant favorite for fans of YA fantasy.
Revisado: 08-14-21
I began hearing about this book last year, well before its release, and was eager to dive in once it became available. I preordered, saw its delivery straight to my Kindle on release day... and then, life. Between books pending review, work, kid, and an already ever-growing TBR pile, this one somehow fell aside.
So when I got the chance to review the audiobook, I was rather pleased, despite the fact that I never, ever listen to fantasy audiobooks that I haven't read first. I generally find it too easy to get distracted, and harder to pick up on the characters and the world-building that the author so painstakingly creates for their readers.
Having said that, I really did enjoy Born at Dawn, so much so, that it deserves a reread in my usual approach (something I will save for a little closer to book two's release).
Neva made for a compelling main character - her self-confidence set against her desire to learn more about the powers she was given strikes a close enough familiarity to Throne of Glass' Aelin that Maas fans will notice, but not be deterred from her unique development. The usual romantic trials and tangles that often plague YA fantasies is present here as well, however it is simply a slow burn that creates interest without detracting from the story.
I was also pleased to find that, despite the author setting up a multi-book landscape, the world-building here wasn't so grandiose that the reader would get lost.
In terms of the audiobook itself, the narrator is fantastic with her range and ability to separate the characters on the page, and I had no trouble in following along with her storytelling. She delivered the intensity perfectly, where I often found myself setting aside whatever I was supposed to be doing at the time, and simply listening in.
Fans of this genre will absolutely find similarities to other popular books alongside it, but there is enough unique creation in both the diverse cast of characters and the driving plot that I think it will be an instant favorite to those who give it a try. I am looking forward to a reread where I can truly escape within this world, and am absolutely looking forward to book two.

An emotional journey brought to life.
Revisado: 03-06-21
Aiden Snow as Ripper (and Ryker, and Dax) and Grace Grant as Cara truly brought this emotional journey to life.
I've read and loved this book several times, and it's so much more than Ripper's story - it's a story of the healing that he, Ry and Dax find in truly saving one another. Never backing down from the heartache. Finding beauty in what's broken.
These two narrators capture every moment of the suspense that Patricia Eddy writes so well, and I'd highly recommend letting yourself escape, not only into this book, but into the series as a whole. The steam, the action, and the love - within couples, yes, but within this tight-knit family of special forces and tech geniuses - is so uplifting and enchanting that you'll want to get lost time and time again.

Aiden Snow will forever be the voice of the AFK men in my mind, but in By Lethal Force, Grace Grant is an absolute star with her ability to switch between accents. She truly brought Joey's situation, emotional inflection and strength fighting against fear to the surface.
And hearing Snow's slow, steady baratone as he read the last bit of the epilogue brought tears to my eyes.
This was another throughly enjoyable escape via audio.

This was so emotional to listen to.
Revisado: 02-25-21
This is an emotional book to read, by the simple nature of who Dax is and how he navigates the world, his company, his relationships following the loss of his sight. As an audiobook, it's a true journey.
Aiden Snow managed to perfectly capture the raw emotion in so many of the situations throughout the book that, despite my multi-tasking, I found myself brought to tears repeatedly.
As Evianna, Grace Grant brought her no-nonsense strength and unflinching devotion - to both her job and Dax - to the surface wonderfully.
I loved every minute of it.

I didn't think I could love Ryker's story more...
Revisado: 02-23-21
On His Six was the first book I ever read from Patricia D Eddy, and it has always remained my favorite. I immediately fell in love with the way she brought these fractured and healing characters to life with her words. Despite having read this one at least half a dozen times... I so thoroughly enjoyed hearing how Aiden Snow and Grace Grant brought their voices and vitality to the surface. I got utterly lost in hearing Ry struggle with his connections to their people - his family - around him, and Wren as she found the strength to heal and overcome the demons brought on her. This is absolutely a book I'll listen to time and time again.

Revisado: 02-22-21
Grant Grace, without a doubt, makes the concept of 'fierce female' sing from the page. She perfectly captured the sass and strength behind Inara's words, even in her most vulnerable moments.
Together with Aiden Snow as our Royce, the two of them have brought new life to a book I've read, and enjoyed, many times over, from the very emotional scenes as they feel each other out, Royce's difficulties, and all of the very steamy scenes inbetween.
