Great Read

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 03-23-09

This is wonderfully entertaining - The content is informative, important, relevant and illuminating.

The author/narrator does a great job.

The text is an easy read, yet not simplistic.

Great book. Did you know that Czechoslovakia 'stole' the Sudetenland from Austria, giving Hitler a pretext to invade them twenty years later? Fascinating.

Why can't this man be President?

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 08-01-07

An extraordinarily articulate and sensible book. The World needs a man like this. A President who believes in Natural Selection? Think of the possibilities!

The book makes an excellent analysis of the effects of fear and TV upon reason, clouding judgment.

Seriously, maybe it's a good thing he wasn't President in 2000. If he had been, he couldn't run today, when we need him more than ever.

Fun read

This is fun to read - just when you think things can't get any worse, there comes another topper. The doomed, hapless gringos inexorably stumble to their perdition. A surprise at every turn.

Taught, tight writing

4 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 12-30-06

Nobody writes like Le Carr? - so much is conveyed in so little words. The action is cerebral, makes you read between the lines. The bad guys are despicable, the good guys are doomed lovers, the World is corrupt as usual. Excellent read.

This is a very entertaining and informative book. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it during my walks.

It added texture and background to the major events of the past few years in the world of business and technology.

Gripping

Excellent reading. Shakes up our complacency vis-a-vis disease.

Comes up with a couple of novel and thought-provoking explanations for why the 1918 flu spared children & old people, attacking mainly young aduts.

Sobering

Total
3 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 05-12-06

I appreciated how the author makes a significant historical conflict come alive by telling anecdotes of "real" people. We see how a community of Muslims and Hindus, who got along together in the Kashmir, were ripped apart by radicals and extremists from both sides. We witness the slow, insidous divisions that infiltrate, and how people are pushed into brutality by events.

The conflict over Kashmir is an important phenomenon, since it involves two nuclear powers.

However, the characters are not likeable. India Oeffals, Max Oeffals, Shalimar, Bunyi Kohl, are all self-absorbed personalities with not much to endear them to us. I need to like the characters in order to be absorbed in a novel and appreciate it. Rushdie's writing is good craftsmanship. Ultimately we endure the characters rather than getting involved with them.

Bottom line, I enjoyed the read.

Bang on!

I would not generally consider myself a liberal, but I was thoroughly entertained by Franken's book. He is very funny.

It's important to listen to people who set the record straight. Falsehoods should not be allowed on any side of the political spectrum.

I loved it! I work in the IT industry, and the tech. support horror stories are hysterically funny.

Very entertaining. I have actually seen support pits of this nature, complete with green mowhawk hairdo-types. O tempora O mores

Half the story

This is an entertaining and interesting book. These are obvioulsy smart and hard-working people, and rightly stand as an inspiration to us.

The reader should keep in mind, however, that much of Microsoft's success is also due to ruthless and predatory tactics.
