Lonely antiquities curator is enthralled by her latest project, restoring a priceless Medieval statue of a knight in full armor, the museum’s most recent acquisition. Right away, things go awry when she thinks she can hear the statues thoughts. Is she losing her mind or is there really a man trapped inside the statue? Bryn Donovan’s Her Knight at the Museum is a perfect marriage of rom com and historical romance with a dash if time travel. This is the perfect novel for lovers of the movie Kate & Leopold. It’s fast paced, full of emotion, and amply seasoned with spice. In other words, this is one of those un-put-down-ables so carve out a day to spend with Emily and Griffin in Her Knight at the Museum. Oh and... I listened to the audio version. The narrator is stellar.

Another riveting story. I love this author and the narrator is outstanding. And I can’t get this window to close without writing a reviewer.

I cannot wait for the second book in this series. It was fresh and exciting and unputdownable. I find it hard to believe any Speculative Fiction fan would find fault with this book—the performance or the story—but one man's meat is another man's poison. The Sword Defiant is brimming with heart and humor and adventure. I want my own Spell Breaker. If you love The Witcher series, you'll love this, too.

I loved Natalie Caña’s first novel, A Proposal They Can’t Refuse. So, I was doubly excited to be back with the Vega family again in book 2, A Dish Best Served Hot. It’s a second chance love story featuring the oldest Vega brother, Saint, a man who is all about responsibility for his family, his country, and now his daughter. There’s no room in his life for romance, but when his childhood sweetheart returns to the neighborhood after years apart, he feels the old tug in a big way. Lola León has returned to Humboldt Park to care for her grandfather. She’s a warrior for social justice and cannot turn her back when a shelter for homeless youths is under threat. Equally unable to resist her attraction to Saint, they quickly become blissfully entangled. Saint wants to help Lola but gets concerned when her activism captures the media’s notice. Saint may have to choose between love and his daughter’s safety, when Lola’s high-profile involvement draws attention from some dangerous people. Caña creates an immersive world of rich characters, complex story, and deep romance. I also adore the grandpas, their mischief, their love, and their heroism. Natalie Caña’s narrator, Valentina Ortis, is outstanding. I only wish I could listen to the next book NOW! Look for Sleeping with the Frenemy in June 2024. #23for23

I love this series so much—the narration, the writing, the characters—but I am grieving. Grieving! It's gonna take time to recover from this one. I won't give anything away except this one really hurt my heart.

In A Proposal They Can’t Refuse, Natalie Caña serves up a mouthwatering dish of “fake engagement” and “friends to lovers” simmered in a sofrito of Puerto Rican heat and Irish whisky leaving readers pleasantly drunk and well sated. It’s a secret sauce of fall-in-love, make-me-laugh, break-my-heart, and fall-in-love-again. Seriously one of the top five contemporary romances I’ve devoured in 2022 or perhaps in the last decade! This book should come with a warning: You will be tempted to go to Chicago and try to find El Coqui and Kane Distillery because they MUST be real. Readers will fall in love with Liam. It’s impossible not to. Readers will yearn to have a best friend like Kamilah. I dare you to read this and NOT want to become an honorary member of the Vega family. And audiophiles, the audio book version of this novel is OUTSTANDING. The narrator is amazingly talented. I cannot wait for the second book in this series, A Dish Best Served Hot. June cannot come fast enough. Five stars!

Truth and Other Lies by Maggie Smith spotlights media, spin, and the tenuous trust between reader and journalist. Smith tells her story through the lens of Megan, a recent graduate with a keen desire to make her mark as a newspaper reporter. Megan is like a recently opened package of chest-thumping ambition. She wants a seat in the pressroom, to work alongside the truth-tellers, to take on the time-honored role of a news writer. It is from that implicit trust in the Fourth Estate, the unshakeable belief that a free press will always deliver the truth, that Megan discovers that true and false isn’t always black and white, what is right isn’t always good, and the power of spin can make the blackest lies palatable. The writing in this book is so good, it’s hard to believe this is a debut author. Five stars for this one.

Melonie Johnson's Latest is Pure Gold

Revisado: 07-12-21

I'm a Melonie Johnson fan girl and just like her Sometimes in Love series, she taps into the perfect contemporary romance fantasy. In Too Good to Be Real, the main character, Julia, a writer for a popular website, is on assignment. Her job hangs in the balance. If she messes this one up, it's no job, no health insurance, and a move back to mom & dad's basement—not acceptable. Luke, a programming whiz, has created the first ever "rom com experience getaway." Their grand opening will determine if the idea sinks or swims. He and his staff need to pull out all the stops. Julia shows up for the exciting week with her two besties, all three super-fans of rom com movies. But Julia keeps her role as a reviewer under wraps. Short on staff, Luke must act as another player in the rom com experience. He too, must keep his real connection to the hotel's rom com getaway, but when things heat up between Julia and Luke, their true identities melt away. Five stars for this one. And I hope Julia's friends get their own story! Narrators Solo and Gordon did a nice job, too.

Enemies to Lovers is one of my favorite tropes and Allison Saft does it right. Her YA fantasy Down Comes the Night sucked me into an alternate world of conflict and magic so deeply, so completely, it took discipline to set the story down. Her characters are drawn with a deft hand, each with their own imperfections and endearing qualities. At the center is Wren, a healer with unusually strong magical powers. She’s also been gifted with a kind heart and has, as her greatest enemy says, the courage and the strength to do the hardest thing, to be merciful. The themes of mercy and forgiveness, friendship and love, acceptance and belonging, thread throughout the story seamlessly and resolve in a satisfying, if not bittersweet, way. Lovers of fantasy and magic both young and adult will enjoy Down Comes the Night. And the narrator is fantastic

I love shifter novels and this series by Jennifer Ashley is outstanding. The narrator, Cris Dukehart is good but unfortunately she doesn't know how to pronounce the words "feral" or "experiment", the two most often used words in the series. So distracting.
