I’m an Empath, and yet I felt no empathy for the Husband

Perhaps my review says more about me than about him or the episode. Probably even.

I felt a sense of self-entitlement in him, that her adoration of him is something he takes for granted. I hope for their family’s sake he can figure it out.

True Love

Bob Newhart is an amazing treasure. I laughed and sniffed back tears. They don’t make em like that any more — but the conversations with this middle generation of comedians was a passing of the torch and reflecting it back on their inspiration. Great program. Will listen to it again for sure.

I’m 52 years old and was an avid reader as a child, so I am perplexed that I never read this book during my own adolescence. It is timeless and wonderful. I love it and am haranguing my own high school aged daughter to give it a listen.

A must read

Bahni Turpin gives a spectacular Interpretation of Angie Thomas’s brilliant story. This white woman wants everyone who wants us all to come together to heal the divisions among us to read/listen to this book. We must understand.

Those who don’t wish to understand will not — and that’s okay. We can change and heal this nation without them.

Superb storytelling made even better in the audio production.

I love this book, these characters and their stories. And although I often think, with other titles, that my overall experience might have been richer had I read the book rather than listened to the audio version, this is one of those rare perfect marriages of storytelling and performance. The narrator's inhabiting of the character of Mr. Stevens was superb. Understated English perfection, just like the writing of the narrative and the characters themselves.

Excellent Narration

What does Ray Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His accents and dialects, especially in the male characters, are perfectly nuanced. I would swear his Dr. Patel is a an Indian man speaking and the characters of Jake and Pat's father are very authentic Philly accents and voices.

Who was the most memorable character of The Silver Linings Playbook and why?

I love Pat, inside and out.

More enjoyable than I anticipated

This book got my husband to consider reading and watching the real Pride & Prejudice, so I'm a fan for that reason alone. We enjoyed it together on a family car trip. The characters were perfectly aligned with my memory of Jane Austen's characterizations, except that Mary was a bit more likable, which was fine with me.
