Historia
Considered the first full-length detective novel in the English language, T.S. Eliot described The Moonstone as 'the first and greatest English detective novel'. The stone of the title is an enormous yellow diamond plundered from an Indian shrine after the Siege of Seringapatam. Given to Miss Verinder on her 18th birthday, it mysteriously disappears that very night. Suspicion falls on three Indian jugglers who have been seen in the neighbourhood. Sergeant Cuff is assigned to the case....

It kept me guessing and wanting more.
Revisado: 09-17-24
Even though there were a lot of slow parts, it kept me interested and never sure who the thief could be though I liked to suspect! It was clean and funny at times. I listened to it in three or four days. I very much enjoyed this book.

Historia
The boy has lived his whole life trapped within a book-choked chamber older than empires and larger than cities. The girl has been plucked from the outskirts of civilization to be trained as a librarian, studying the mysteries of the great library at the heart of her kingdom. They were never supposed to meet. But in the library, they did. Their stories spiral around each other, across worlds and time. This is a tale of truth and lies and hearts, and the blurring of one into another.

What a treasure!
Revisado: 11-11-23
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It had me enthralled till the end. Sometimes I get confused with time shifts in a book, but the author did a marvelous job with this. In fact it was a key element to the story. His writing is poetic and beautifully descriptive without being overwordy. I could have done without the overused F-bombs from one character, though it did fit with his personality. Overall, this was a unique and thought-provoking story. Well done! The narrator was very good also! Now I'm off to see what else this superb author has written.

I really enjoyed these books. There wasn't anything overly violent or sexual. I got really attached to the characters and liked watching them succeed.

I'm so glad I decided to take a chance on the second book. I enjoyed the first one but it moved slow in the beginning. The second one was full of action! I really loved the characters too.

Started a bit slow but accentuates the main characters low situation. It does really draw you in though. It makes you root for him to come up in the world. A bit gruesome at times. Overall it was a unique and entertaining story.

Historia
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

Intriguing and unique story. A bit depressing though. Pacing was steady and not the most exciting but moved along alright. The ending was okay but I would have liked more romance between the two main characters. It held my interest enough to finish but I wasn't that excited about listening to it. I did want to find out what was going to happen. I wouldn't enthusiastically recommend it to a friend.

I have absolutely loved the serriez but this book seemed to really drag on and on. I did not like going back-and-forth In the timeline to explain things that had happened it was very confusing for me. I struggled to finish this book. as always the voice acting was incredible.

Beautiful writing
Revisado: 09-13-20
Uníque story. Beautiful writing. Cried at some parts cringed at others. Could have been longer and more detailed with more live action/narrative. Main character was a young girl about 17 but was frustratingly naive at times.

Historia
The First Lord's game has reached a critical apex. For the first time in millennia, the teams are equally matched. The field itself holds a kind of equilibrium. It is the task of Björn's Players to unbalance the field in their own favor in their great game to restore Balance to the Realms of Light. But with Malorin'athgul and now Warlocks returned to the realms, the game - and the stakes involved - has elevated to an entirely new order of magnitude, requiring Björn's Players to do the same.
