Historia
As darkness gathers, the sky is filled with frantic motion and maddening murmurs. In an effort to end the world, an unhappy, aging Native American shaman invokes the Hopi god of death. Those around him remain skeptical, dismissing him as crazy old man. Then they discover his mutilated, bloody body and soon other similarly disfigured bodies begin to appear. Horses, sheep, cattle - no living thing is safe. But what is causing the horrible deaths?

Better and Better
Revisado: 02-14-17
This series just gets better and better. Superior character development and plotting. In particular, the development of personalities and timeliness of the story impressed me. Erica, also has become a much more interesting character. However, this time around the writer created supporting characters whose personal struggles and failures made me really care about them. I wanted them to win. This is unusual and does not happen in most mysteries. At most the reader might have a fondness for a recurring character.

Intelligent Thriller - Kept Me Guessing!
Revisado: 07-18-16
Love this author's clever mysteries. Wolf Lake is one of his best.
Also, Dave"s complicated relationship with his wife is always intriguing. Dave and the reader can never quite figure out Maddie. However, the intricate and unique plots keep the reader stumped to the end. Highly recommended to those suffering from locked room mystery burn out.

Revisado: 04-19-16
The author has created a fascinating sequel by assembling both a familiar and original combination of successful elements. I loved the new characters: They blend well with story lines from the first novel. Totally satisfying follow up. To the author - Please do not wait so long to give us the next novel in this series!

Clergyman's Dilemma; Solid Storytelling
Revisado: 07-25-15
Interesting, if a little dated story: Or is it? Clergyman is concerned because his son wants to marry the daughter of an executed murderer. The degree to which this is such a deal breaker was amazing to me. Thinking this is more of a cultural issue. In the U.S., this would be stored up as ammunition for use at a later point. Unless, the offspring foamed at the mouth or displayed signs of violent behavior no one would care very much. The mysteries surrounding the executed man keep the story moving and the resolution is sound. However, you really need to be invested in the clergyman's dilemma to fully appreciate this one. Wexford is a marginal character.

One of Ian Rankin's Best
Revisado: 06-24-15
Complicated plot but intriguing story lines come together nicely. Excellent narration, switching between British and Scottish accents. The technology seems a little dated even for 2001 when the novel was first published. However, Rankin captures well the addictive quality of the gaming culture. Also, this listener was in the U.S. not Scotland in 2001.

Fast paced, well written thriller
Revisado: 06-14-15
This was my first Gregg Hurwitz novel. Definitely an edge-of-your seat, can't put down thriller. I loved it and plan to read more by this author. Very well written and executed. Hurwitz is a master storyteller: His premise may not be particularly original and there were some recognizable thriller tropes - but this is mostly forgotten as he spins his story.
