Historia
Macbeth: A Novel brings the intricacy and grit of the historical thriller to Shakespeare’s tale of political intrigue, treachery, and murder. In this full-length novel written exclusively for audio, authors A. J. Hartley and David Hewson rethink literature’s most infamous married couple, grounding them in a medieval Scotland whose military and political upheavals are as stark and dramatic as the landscape in which they are played.

A stand-alone masterful version of a classic tale
Revisado: 04-03-12
This novel is unique in that it takes a legendary tale (Macbeth) which is famously known as a classic play (Shakespeare) and refashions it as a novel. The language is deeply moving, evocative, dark and riveting. The story is tragic and brutal and filled with humanity. The characters are well drawn and sympathetic. The narration by Alan Cumming is one of the best I have ever heard. If you don't like Shakespeare, you'll still love this book because it avoids some of the language difficulties that many have with the old English poetry. If you love Shakespeare you will love this book because it is faithful to the story but is able to delve more deeply into things such as motives, thoughts, and even scenes and vivid landscapes, that a play simply cannot encompass. Plus, the language is generally appropriate to the 11th century and does not "modernize" the story or the dialogue.

Fabulous finish to the Compass Club series!
Revisado: 03-16-10
I loved all four of the books but this one was by far my favorite. Based on content of the first three books, I did not expect to like West as much as the other three Compass Club members, but it turns out he is by far the most admirable and one of the most attractive characters I have had the pleasure to meet. Also, the malevolence of the Bishops in this book reaches a climactic level of cruelty that serves to highlight the evil of the Society and vividly illustrates the good versus evil theme. Thoroughly enjoyable and the narrator was terrific.
