Too Short!!
Revisado: 01-10-25
Unless “summer of 89” comes out- I don’t recommend. This didn’t seem complete. Otherwise I enjoyed it. I loved the prequel. I hope this becomes a trilogy.

I’ve listened to this 5 times… my comfort book
Revisado: 10-18-24
I love this book. I love the narrator. This book is a comfort listen to me.
I’m not even Jewish. I was raised Catholic. My name is from the old testament and I have always had Jewish friends who feel like my family.
This combined with Ella’s complete and utter adoration of her Bubbie- resonated with me. My brilliant Gram. My brilliant Jewish friends. This brilliant story.
I wish Elka were living. I would write to her.
I hope you love this enchanting tale. I know I will keep listening over and over.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Do yourself a favor and do not get the audio version of this well written and interesting summer read. The narration was truly unbearable. The narrator is robotic and her character voices are nothing short of atrocious. I have never left a bad review, but I felt the responsibility preventing another from this terrible experience. I hate leaving anything unfinished and I have to say I liked the storyline and characters. To the author: perhaps have another narrator, re record this reading.

Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

Karen Peakes provides a narration that is nothing short of perfection. I could see the faces of the characters she voiced as she fluidly paints this remarkable tale.

Revisado: 04-14-16
A must read (and listen) for all parents. Janet helped me find my unruffled voice. Thanks to her podcasts and this audiobook, I have become the "calm, comfortable and confident" parent I want to be. I find myself listening to some chapters over again and having my husband listen with me. Thank you, Janet- when you say "we can do this." I feel I can. Thank you, for your insight and your dedication to respectful (not passive!) parenting.
