Hattie Murton never dreamed of TV stardom. A straight-from-a-fairytale encounter with a casting agent somehow landed her a part on what she’d thought would be a one-off pilot for Leicester Square…

Fun story; improved as it went on
Revisado: 05-03-25
The beginning was very odd and dragged on a bit. I hadn’t re- read the title details, before launching the audiobook, so I really did not understand where the story was going. Once it got going (1/4 way in), it was a fun ride and many lines laugh out loud funny.
Nicola Coughlan’s narration was difficult to decipher at first due to her speaking speed and Irish accent. I slowed the playback, and that helped tremendously. There were a few times when her “voice” for the two characters was not that different and I had to replay it 3-4 times to understand who was speaking/ what they were saying. Gwilym Lee’s narration was unexpected, coming a bit later in the story, and really quite nice.
The character development was natural and the ending wrapped things up nicely. I would enjoy listening to stories about some of the other sub characters in the plot line. I would definitely read/ listen to anything by this author again.

Asha's life is no fairytale, by any stretch of the imagination. There was no kind, generous father to care for and protect her from the Vegas that exists beyond the glitz and glamour of The Strip. No wise, doting mother to look over and guide her, passing down essential lessons and leading her to the right path. And certainly, no Prince Charming just around the corner, ready to rescue her from working late nights to cover steadily mounting bills.

Too very dislikable characters
Revisado: 04-26-25
He’s a misogynist and he treats her like crap at the the start of the book. He completely disrespected her, and hit on her when she was working for him??!. I find that sort of behavior, especially from people in positions of power and authority, just disgusting. There is nothing romantic about it. He then gets mad at another guy who’s disrespecting her the same way?! She is just an idiot to to get involved with him and and to keep supporting her loser brother. So many bad choices in her life. I guess they deserve each other.

Eight years ago I fell into a secret summer fling with my best friend’s little sister before our lives went in different directions. Now, I’m the grumpy to Juliet’s sunshine on a popular dating podcast we host, and when a wealthy fan gives us a charming coastal cottage as the biggest thank you ever, we head to the town where I grew up to give it a makeover. And find the house has only one bed. Located under a mirrored ceiling.

Worst audible book ever
Revisado: 04-14-25
There is no “there“ there. The storyline is nonexistent. The dialogue is silly. I fast forwarded through many parts as they just were not moving the story forward. The entire purpose of the “book” seems to be as a vehicle for sexcapades. The narration was fine - particularly given what they had to work with.

Let them… let me…
Revisado: 03-02-25
Very interesting conversation - episode 1. I took a lot away from the “Let them, Let me”. I use this practice more in work than I do in my personal life. I could definitely use a lot more of it in my personal life - with immediate & extended family. I shared the episode with my 21 yr daughter. I think she’s stresses a lot about what others think of her. This may help her.
The ABC method - I do use a lot with my own dad who is 91 years old, still driving, dating, living alone, and traveling internationally. He is super independent but his health is declining and he’s getting a bit more forgetful. I will keep using this with him. And with my 24 year old son - who’s generally uncommunicative and still trying to find his way in this world.
I will replay this episode. I’m sure there is more I can get out of it. Thank you both for your honesty and hard work in putting this together.

If I heard “cracker” one more time…
Revisado: 01-04-25
I had really expected more plot than girl gets pregnant from a one night stand, too much tequila, sex in the backseat of a car, broken condom, and inconveniently missed birth control pills, (you would think she was 15 years old - she was in her mid 20s), girl meets “gazillionaire”, they fall in love and he’s happy to claim the baby as his. And that’s it. That’s the story. Along with excessive emphasis on her morning sickness, her need to eat crackers all the time, and avoid alcohol and all caffeinated drinks like the plague. I fast forwarded through many scenes which did not move the plot forward. It was still a painful read.

Quin St. Clair lived hundreds of years ago, but now exists solely to protect the world he once called home. That's all he will tell Cara, the woman he must keep alive by remaining close to her. Very close.

Great premise … dragged at the end
Revisado: 12-28-24
Great premise. I enjoyed learning bit by bit about Quinn. Cara’s character was a bit flat. The most frustrating part was how much the pace slowed in the latter third of the book. Too much navel gazing and indecision by the Heroine. Including during the “final battle “. Thankfully, Audible allowed me to fast forward 30 seconds at a clip, to skip the boring inner monologue. This book could’ve been cut by at least a third - nearly the entire latter third. The second book sounds interesting, but I was just too annoyed with the book one that I won’t be reading on.

Now if she could just remember how it all happened.

A big nothing burger
Revisado: 08-27-24
Very weak storyline. Girl meets hot rock star. Marries boy that night, but doesn’t remember a thing about meeting him or marrying him. They treat each other poorly & immaturely back-and-forth, back-and-forth, all the while professing their love for each other. Get together, break up, get back together, and break up. Hot sex occurs at the most inappropriate times & places. He was supposed to have a deep, masculine voice, I did not hear that. I did not care for any of the side characters either. All in all, I would not recommend, nor will I be reading the rest of the books in this series.

It's no easy job being the town nutcase. Ella knows from experience. She's grown up in a quaint little place with people who pretend the extraordinary isn't happening around them. They ignore the bumps in the night and won't talk about doors closing by themselves or items moving mysteriously. They also won't talk about the old woman who haunts the streets. Those who do are fibbers, begging for attention. But Ella knows it is no lie - when the lightning cracks and the rain thrashes, someone goes missing: a child, lost to the night.

Worst K.F. Breene book I’ve read
Revisado: 07-18-24
I think of Breene as a fast paced action / great banter writer. This book is NOT THAT!
I can only think that this must be one of the first books Breene ever wrote, and she never had it professionally edited. It is THAT bad. There is a whole lot of unnecessary, ridiculous & boring dialogue, and some very dragged out scenes. It was nearly a DNF. I continually fast-forwarded 30 seconds, +30, +30 …. and even THAT did not move the story along very quickly!
I don’t mind a young adult story. But that’s no reason for a YA book to be so poorly written. I would say Breene should hand this story to a professional editor, and then republish it. It will probably be 1/3 to 1/2 as along.

Fun story - weak ending
Revisado: 07-18-24
I enjoyed Gabriella’s character (mostly), the potty mouthed bird, and the mother & father’s quips about the bird (the “shake ‘n bake” line & ringing phone bit had me laughing out loud).
Some of Gabriella’s decisions made me scream. In chapter 2, I kept yelling to myself “ask for a lawyer. Ask for a lawyer. Ask for a lawyer!” Gah!!
I did not think it was realistic or necessary for the 2 main characters to rush into a romantic / sexual relationship. It felt forced. I skipped over most of the looooong drawn out kissing & sex scenes. Their reconciliation at the end was silly. He only realized that he loved her when he saw her at the party?? How is it that he did not come to this realization all those weeks (months??) that she was away? I wanted to slap him and then shake her for taking him back so quickly with this lame answer of his.
As for the narrator- some voices were great (MMC’s parents, FMC’s mother, the bird) but I saw little differentiation between Gabriella & her partner’s voices.

It's 1969 and Palm Springs socialite Maxine Simmons is planning a Thanksgiving feast to rival Nixon's stealthy maneuvers in the White House and Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon. With a catered menu to die for and a dining room that looks like it's been ripped from the glossy pages of a magazine, her entrance to high society is all but assured. Then comes the humiliation of being dumped by her husband of 17 years. Banished to Arizona, the disgraced Maxine languishes in exile. But then she suddenly gets an idea of how she can win it all back.

Great character development and truly “laugh out loud”
Revisado: 05-05-24
Loved it. So fun. Extremely uncomfortable start, set the scene for terrific character development for Maxine - and Chuck . 💕 Once the story got rolling, I laughed out loud, numerous times, every chapter. My favorite quotable:
“You know what? Tough sh*t. This is my castle. And I’ll make and break any g*d d*mn rule I please.” Amen, sister!! 😆
Loved the epilogue & final quote “… besides, it was the 70s, we were all a little crazy…” so spot on!! 😂
This is the rare book which I’d happily listen to again and again!
