Love the continuation of this fabulous series!
Revisado: 03-10-22
I have every one of Ms. Leigh’s books in this expansive storyline and love all them, listening to them often.
Although the narrator did an adequate job, I felt his portrayal of the men was quite flat. I bought this audible version (as I do all in audible) assuming it would be Mary Sarah Agliotta’s wonderfully engaging and careful rendering of each character. And although I enjoy different narrators’ voices and don’t mind someone different, it would be much better if s/he would be able to flesh out each character with inflection and intonation. In my mind, as this narrator would speak some dialogue for Hector, for instance, I would say, “Mary Sarah would have said that like this,” and I’d actually speak it out loud. (Good thing I live alone!) After all, all we have when we’re listening is the sound of a voice—no costumes, fancy sets, or live action.
But do read this first in this series for the continuing saga of the Wulfriths!

Historia
Caroline Gray’s third season in London society ends as badly as her first two - no marriage proposal, no suitor, not even a glimmer of an interested prospect. She suspects it’s because she is far too quick to speak her mind to men who are put off by her opinions, her intellect, and her unconventional ideas. Besides, Caroline thinks there will always be next season to find a husband. However, her family’s dwindling income leaves Caroline with only one choice to secure her future: a one-way ticket to sail with the fishing fleet to India, where the son of a family friend waits.

Interesting story, but the narration...

This story, overall, was a decent one but I fear the narrator’s rendition made it seem quite dull. Her voice sounded almost like an AI/automaton voice with absolutely no “life” put into the dialogue. I would often find my thoughts drifting to other mundane things, which doesn’t happen as a rule. I had about an hour and a half left and just skipped to the end. I couldn’t bear it any longer. Pity...lots of potential in this book.

Historia
Life had never been particularly kind to Annie Ramsey. When a handsome, kind stranger offers her another way, she must decide if she is brave enough to change her situation or if she dares to hope for more. Duncan Bray could not resist the urge to help the young woman he found in the wintery chill of Yorkshire. Taking her to London and introducing her to a new life there would provide opportunities for her beyond what she ever could have imagined. But he never dreamed how this particular good deed would change everything for him as well.

Good storyline but...
Revisado: 09-04-18
Note: This might have some triggers for some women who have suffered abuse. I almost had to stop reading it pretty early on.
I like how this author has carried all storylines of the friends and given them their own story at some point. You get very “close” to them and care about them more and more.
The narrator is very good, especially at making each voice quite distinguishable so you know who the character is before she even identifies them. I really enjoyed listening to her.
It seems to me that the author has the main characters repeat themselves a lot which got to be annoying. I found myself saying aloud, “Yeah, Yeah, I get it! He loves her!” or “Oh my word, just get on with it!” This book could very well be reduced by at least five chapters with some prudent editing. But all in all, it was an enjoyable “read.”
