In In Order to Live, Yeonmi Park shines a light not just into the darkest corners of life in North Korea, describing the deprivation and deception she endured and which millions of North Korean people continue to endure to this day, but also onto her own most painful and difficult memories. She tells with bravery and dignity for the first time the story of how she and her mother were betrayed and sold into sexual slavery in China and forced to suffer terrible psychological and physical hardship before they finally made their way to Seoul, South Korea - and to freedom.

Thank you, Ms. Park, for sharing your story. My heart breaks for the people of North Korea. Your story has inspired me to fight for human rights all over the world. Your story reminded me how important it is to speak out against socialism, human trafficking, and censorship. Thank you for your courage and openess.

Historia
Island of the Blue Dolphins is the remarkable story of a strange and beautiful Indian girl who lives a serene and courageous life as the solitary survivor on an island off the California coast. Left behind when the rest of her tribe fled, she waits, year after year, for a ship to come for her. Terrible Audio Quality
Revisado: 05-08-20
Look, this is a classic. I get that the audio was recorded ages ago, but this story deserves an updated recording without music. That kind of thing belongs in audio dramas, not a modern audio book.
Audible could at LEAST remaster the audio and make it cleaner. If you don't believe me about the poor quality, listen to the sample on Google Play Books: it's night and day.
Finally, Audible needs to stop being lazy and divide this info chapters which align with the book. All of the reasons given for this NOT being done by now are garbage. It doesn't matter that the old CD version (from which many of the older works are taken) didn't have chapters which aligned. That was an issue relevant to CDs as an optical media format. This is pure digital. This happens a lot on Audible (and maybe other audio book services).
Audible has the best catalogue and good prices, so they win the day, but poorly handling a classic like this is inexcusable.

Historia
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

Overrated
Revisado: 09-25-17
Another old sci fi classic that's overrated. While there are some merits to the work, the lack of believability undercut the story.
Whether this was Orwell's critique of Stalinism or not, I don't know. What I DO know is that everyone (all parties) needs to immediately stop using it in political discourse. It's too far disconnected from reality. So much so, it's almost dystopian fantasy more than dystopian sci fi.
And yes, I understand that many wouldn't categorize this work as sci fi, but the prevalence of technology makes it hard for me to simply categorize it as a dystopian fiction.
In the end, I say skip it and read a good summary. despite what many say, the section in which The Book is read, is probably the most relevant part of the story.

Yet another good Dresden story. I really can't complain. There are a couple of errors that Marsters makes, but that's just how things go with some audiobooks.

Terrible
Revisado: 08-27-15
I can't believe that this book is so highly regarded. It's easily one of the most poorly constructed sci-fi works I've ever read. [SPOILERS] EVERYTHING concerning Wilbur Mercer didn't make sense, Rick's infatuation with Rachael didn't make sense, the radioactive dust didn't even make sense. It's like Dick decided not to actually write the setting properly. Then there's Buster Friendly... I mean... that's the worst possible name and it just seems silly. I can't BELIEVE how highly regarded this book is.

I can't believe how different this novel is from the first. This one was grittier, but it was very good, I'd argue even more compelling than its predecessor. the reader did a better job on this book, compared to the first. Overall, it's darn good.
