Wonderful
Revisado: 12-13-23
I loved every minute of this. Geddy is a fantastic narrator, and his insights into his marriage, the process of making music with Rush, and the incredible friendships with his band mates and crew made for a very interesting and enjoyable listen. Also, I really recommend you don’t skip Chapter 3, it’s harrowing and depressing but well worth your time; this recording of history is a real gift from Ged to his family.

Al Michaels is an American treasure
Revisado: 09-18-22
I love Al Michaels and Chris Collinsworth on SNF, I think they’re the best broadcasting team out there, so I was curious about Al’s career. This book covers it well in entertaining style, I’m headed back to the beginning to listen again. I particularly enjoyed the chapters on his early days doing baseball games in Hawaii and then for the Cincinnati Reds and the early 70s Big Red Machine. There are some great stories in here, including the 1980 Lake Placid Miracle on Ice, and the reading by Al Michaels (a couple chapters) and the other reader is engaging and enjoyable.

Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Great story, humor, and fantastic narration. The interactions between Joe and the AI character Skippy had me laughing out loud on multiple occasions. I’m 100% going forward to book 2!

Historia
The Old Course at St. Andrews is to golfers what St. Peter's is to Catholics or the Western Wall is to Jews: hallowed ground, the course every golfer longs to play - and master. In 1983 George Peper was playing the Old Course when he hit a slice so hideous that he never found the ball. But in looking for it, he came across a For Sale sign on a stone town house alongside the famed eighteenth hole. Two months later he and his wife, Libby, became the proud owners of 9A Gibson Place.

For golfers, worth a listen
Revisado: 05-27-22
I listened to this because I have a golf trip to St. Andrews coming soon. It was useful from that perspective since it gave the author’s opinions and insights on several of the courses in the area (Old, New, Himalayas putting course, Jubilee). The local characters in the story are fun, as are the stories about the R&A and other golf clubs in the area. If you’re looking to develop a “what to do in St. Andrews” list for things besides golf, this is not the best book for you.
By the way, the reader is great, even when he mispronounces Furyk, Anika, Stableford, Medinah, and Elin!

Enjoyable
Revisado: 05-03-22
A worthwhile listen, entertaining story and characters, covers the breadth of the American golf experience. I saved at least a dozen courses from the book in Google Maps to knock out in future travels. A minor gripe is with so many courses played, some don’t even get mentioned, or barely mentioned. Hawaii is over and done with in 10 minutes. I would have liked to have heard more. I recommend downloading the companion pdf to this audio book, it contains the best of lists, the ratings for each course played, and interesting short bios on influential course architects.
I don’t love the narration on this book or A Course Called Scotland. When Tom Coyne steps in to read the Epilogue of this book, it’s instantly more animated and interesting. Start narrating your own books Tom!

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

This was fabulously entertaining and wonderfully read. It’s pretty scientific in many places, but that was a plus for me and I learned many things. Thanks Andy Weir, you’ve 2 for 2. I eagerly await your next book, whenever it comes.

Historia
FitzChivalry - royal bastard and former king’s assassin - has left his life of intrigue behind. As far as the rest of the world knows, FitzChivalry Farseer is dead and buried. Masquerading as Tom Badgerlock, Fitz is now married to his childhood sweetheart, Molly, and leading the quiet life of a country squire. Though Fitz is haunted by the disappearance of the Fool, who did so much to shape Fitz into the man he has become, such private hurts are put aside in the business of daily life, at least until the appearance of menacing, pale-skinned strangers casts a sinister shadow over Fitz’s past...and his future.

Love this trilogy, but the reader detracted from my enjoyment
Revisado: 03-03-21
I love these books, which I first read years ago and am rediscovering on Audible. They’re generally great to listen to, but the lack of consistency in pronunciations of names of major characters (Chade, Burrick, Kettricken, and others) and place names between different readers is aggravating. Also, why does the voice of the Fool in this trilogy sound more like Kettricken in an earlier trilogy? That’s sloppy work by the people producing and recording these. The reader of this book also needs more range in his voice, he’s pretty gloomy and unanimated overall, even when the situation calls for something different. I still recommend this book if you’ve liked the earlier trilogies, even if some of Fitz’s logic doesn’t always add up.

I’m glad the writing of this book was therautic to the author. There are some good lessons and insight in here for all. The music contained in the book is simply incredible, and I’m a rock and roll guy!
