Historia
Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense pro who operates out of the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car, to defend clients at the bottom of the legal food chain. It's no wonder that he is despised by cops, prosecutors, and even some of his own clients. But an investigator is murdered for getting too close to the truth and Haller quickly discovers that his search for innocence has taken him face to face with a kind of evil as pure as a flame.

Great story but weird performance
Revisado: 11-06-24
I really enjoyed the twists and turns of the story, but the performance has random bouts of music and awkward breaks that follow them. It isn't like it is a new chapter, it is just a very strange pause that ends with dialog picking back up in the same situation/scene. It was very distracting from an otherwise great performance. Narrator did a great job, but again the ill planned music and breaks made it feel disjointed.

Historia
Over thirty million people have read The Diary of a Young Girl, the journal teen-aged Anne Frank kept while living in an attic with her family and four other people in Amsterdam during World War II, until the Nazis arrested them and sent them to a concentration camp. But despite the many works—journalism, books, plays and novels—devoted to Anne’s story, none has ever conclusively explained how these eight people managed to live in hiding undetected for over two years—and who or what finally brought the Nazis to their door.

Thoroughly researched and addicivly informative. It was very insightful on several aspects of occupied Amsterdam, not just regarding Anne Frank. Would highly recommend for anyone interested in WW 2 history.

In 1978, when Jamiyla was two years old, her mother, Ummi, quit her job, converted to Islam with her husband, and moved into an exclusive Muslim society in Brooklyn. Once inside the Community, the family was separated by its powerful and charismatic leader, Dwight York, who was hiding behind the name Imam Isa. Instead of the devotional refuge they’d imagined, the Community was a nightmare of controlled abuse and unspeakable secrets. Forty years later, Jamiyla was ready to excavate and understand a past buried in bad dreams, disturbing memories, and inexplicable rage.

Misleading description
Revisado: 06-14-22
I did enjoy the book overall, however the description was a little misleading. I thought it was supposed to be about the author's time spent in a cult. While this was covered, the author also gives significant time to political views, going as far as to liken President Trump's supporters to a cult, and stating that The Community was an early Black Lives Matter. Meaning that people joined the cult because people of color did not feel valued by the "white man." It almost sounded like they were forced into it instead of making a choice to live that lifestyle. She also goes on to say how she left the country for a year, becaise of anti-American feelings. The book was well written, and I applaud the author for sharing her story. I just feel that the reader/listener should be informed about the political rhetoric before reading/listening.

Historia
Sam is, to say the least, bookish. An English major of the highest order, her diet has always been Austen, Dickens, and Shakespeare. The problem is that both her prose and conversation tend to be more Elizabeth Bennet than Samantha Moore. But life for the 23-year-old orphan is about to get stranger than fiction. An anonymous, Dickensian benefactor calling himself Mr. Knightley offers to put Sam through Northwestern University’s prestigious Medill School of Journalism. There is only one catch: Sam must write frequent letters to the mysterious donor, detailing her progress.

Sweet, emotionally engaging story.
Revisado: 03-04-22
Written in the style of Daddy Long Legs, the reader follow the protagonist's life through a series of letters. This book made me laugh and cry as the author shed light on some of the more seedier sides of the foster care system, but shows that God's love follows us through every circumstance. I would highly recommend.

Author's hang-ups ruin story
Revisado: 03-02-22
The story line was pretty good, except the author's fixation on sex. The constant barrage of innuendo and "sexcapades" detracted from the story as it truly didn't add any value to the story line. I mean, when you have characters changing into animals so that they can have sex with said animal, it becomes overkill. Also, I was incredibly tired of hearing about limbal rings as it seemed the author had to mention them at least once a chapter. Other than that, it was a good storyline in which the protagonist finds herself as she overcome a myriad of obstacles. It's a shame I couldn't recommend this book due to the author's fixations.

Historia
Prosecuting attorney in the Manson trial Vincent Bugliosi held a unique insider's position in one of the most baffling and horrifying cases of the 20th century: the cold-blooded Tate-LaBianca murders carried out by Charles Manson and four of his followers. What motivated Manson in his seemingly mindless selection of victims, and what was his hold over the young women who obeyed his orders? Now available for the first time in unabridged audio, the gripping story of this famous and haunting crime is brought to life by acclaimed narrator Scott Brick.

Very intriguing!
Revisado: 06-14-20
The book was well written and shed light on what actually happened. As a person who was born decades after the events took place, I was unaware of much of the timeline leading up to the murders, as well as court proceedings. The author broke down the events and interviews in such a way that I was easily able to understand not only the events that occurred, but also the context in which they occurred (ie cultural nuances of the time). The performance was clear and concise. I would recommend this book and author to any true crime reader.

Shouldn't be classified as "simmering".
Revisado: 09-19-18
I am fully aware that different readers like different types of stories. However, when I choose the category of "inspirational" and see the rating for the book is the next to lowest rating of "simmering", I expect it not to be vulgar or have sex scenes. Heads up, for those looking for a "clean read," this is not it.

Often disguised as something that would help him, evil accompanies Christian on his journey to the Celestial City. As you walk with him, you'll begin to identify today's many religious pitfalls. These are presented by men such as Pliable, who turns back at the Slough of Despond; and Ignorance, who believes he's a true follower of Christ when he's really only trusting in himself.

Not the best version for an audio book
Revisado: 11-21-17
Pilgrims Progress is a wonderful book filled with allegories for the Christian journey. However, this particular version includes full scripture for said allegories. If a person was reading the book, it wouldn't be a big deal. However, because this is an audio book, the story is interrupted every few words to input scripture. For example (and I am just making up this quote) " Evangelist said 'You must flee" Scripture: (full scripture is read) 'Keep running and don't look back' Scripture (full scripture is read). The narrator always introduces the scripture by saying "Scripture". This happens about every sentence, sometimes occurring multiple times within a single sentence. This makes it impossible for the listener to follow the story, because there isn't enough uninterrupted dialog to focus on. My suggestion would be to read the book, or find another audible version that allows the story to flow.

Ridiculously confusing
Revisado: 06-25-16
I should have paid more attention to the fact that this is book 3 in a series. Maybe I wouldn't have been so confused on the characters who were thrown into the story, but had no background if I had read the other books. As it was, the author throws the reader into the fray of a large group of quirky characters, who you even have to guess at what age they may be. Also, more character action would have been good instead of all the gossip scenes. Although this was a novella, the story wasn't well structured even for that genre. Also, the narration really bothered me. I am from the south, and can safely say the narrator's voice came across as more whiny then southern. I am not trying to be harsh, just honest.

Ambrose Young was beautiful. He was tall and muscular, with hair that touched his shoulders and eyes that burned right through you. The kind of beautiful that graced the covers of romance novels, and Fern Taylor would know. She'd been reading them since she was 13. But maybe because he was so beautiful he was never someone Fern thought she could have...until he wasn't beautiful anymore.

Emotional Roller Coaster (In a Good Way)
Revisado: 10-18-14
I should probably start this review off by saying that I was the same age as the characters. I too was a senior when 9-11 occurred, so for me this book hit close to home. The author's description of events and feelings occurring during that time of history are well founded and authentic. Although I could relate personally to this book right away because of the historical aspect, I believe that every reader can relate to this story on some level. The author did an incredible job of making the characters well rounded while moving the storyline along. The reader experiences the emotions of loss, love, hope, and redemption among others, right along with the characters. I am an avid reader, and can honestly say that it has been a long time since I experienced such a roller coaster of emotions while reading a book. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a well written novel.
