An exciting continuation!

All the old characters (except Books) are back in an exciting tale. The biggest foe is the intelligent and vengeful plant in the lake, although there are plenty of bad guys plotting to take advantage of the distraction.

Best of all, since it takes quite a while to get the audiobooks published, this has a marvelous ending, but plenty of hints for future adventures.

Keeping Vivienne as the narrator for the series is wonderful. The characters sound the same for all the books.

I look forward to the next book hopefully coming to Audible soon.

Cort is AI Robots?

A dinosaur like Cort shouldn't be pitted against artificial intelligence Robots. His love life is dragging the storyline into emotional trauma crap that has ruined many other great action series. I might be done with the series.

Awful narration

The volume fluctuates so much that it detracts from the story line. Also, the parts where one character is thinking is mumbled. I really wanted to like this but I struggled to suffer through to the end.

My Lord & Lady, the religious stuff never ends!

The world is not very well explained. The magic system is as befuddling to me after finishing the book as it was in the first hour. Geography? No clear concepts of what is where or how it looks. In short, while I really wanted to like it, this series and the domination of The Church isn't for me.

No real plot

This book was a farce! None of the action & detailed planning to accomplish any goal beyond surviving an insane president. Many of the main characters simply did not act in line with the previous 7 books.

Very occult in today's world

This felt more like a black magic primer than a magical fantasy world. Having a US city as the setting, and few hints to bring new readers into the series as a first book, I may be judging the series too harshly.

If you prefer magic systems in a separate magical realm, this book might not be for you.

Team Gray Man

An excellent romp around the globe for the Gray Man with a twist of him building a team. Plenty of action and intrigue with the Russian Ukraine War as a backdrop.

As always, Jay Snyder does a great job of narration, including a subtle approach to various accents.

While the book should be good as a stand alone volume, the layers of complexity between the characters is far more interesting if the preceeding books have been read. Very little background details get included in the book, which certainly helps devoted fans remain engaged in the entire book.

Another 5 stars for Mark Greaney.

Slow start, then action

Mike Maden has done a terrific job picking up Cussler's Oregon Files. The bits of background aren't direct quotes from the last 6 books, praise be.

Unfortunately, Maurice continues to be pronounced as "Morris."

gratuitous violence

Pros: The story and world are interesting and the writing quality is good, the narrator does a great job.

Cons: The violence against the slave girls was a bit explicit.

An engaging tale, but I won't get book 2.
