Historia
An unprecedented historical and literary event, this tale written in the 1850s is the only known novel by a female African American slave, and quite possibly the first novel written by a black woman anywhere. A work recently uncovered by renowned scholar and professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr., it is a stirring tale of "passing" and the adventures of a young slave as she makes her way to freedom.

Excellent
Revisado: 02-07-24
Excellent narrative. I enjoyed from beginning to end.
As the story was reviewed on CBS Sunday Morning Show the story was originally written by the x-slave, Hannah Crafts in long hand. Much of the story happened in Murfreesboro, (Herford County) NC.
The original manuscript was purchased & put up for publication by Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates.
A separate researcher, Gregg Hecimovich thought that this story may have been fabricated. He researched (11 years I think I remember) by visiting Murfreesboro and meeting her descendants. He also had scientists evaluate the paper & inks used, these turned out to be authentic. Afterward, he wrote, “The Life and Times of Hannah Crafts: The True Story of the Bondswoman’s Narrative”. His research story was also featured in the same episode of “CBS Sunday Morning”.
Both stories are fascinating. I’m starting to read (listen to) the follow-up book (Life and Times . . . ) now.

Historia
Rife with the indulgent pleasures of life among New York’s one-percenters, Pineapple Street is a smart, escapist novel that sparkles with wit. Full of recognizable, loveable—if fallible—characters, it’s about the peculiar unknowability of someone else’s family, the miles between the haves and have-nots, and the insanity of first love—all wrapped in a story that is a sheer delight.

Boring ! ! !
Revisado: 04-18-23
I purchased this because it was on the cover of a Sunday NYTimes book section & I live close to this neighborhood. I was MIS-LEAD.
This book was AWFUL and BORING ! Absolutely nothing happens for the 1st 8 chapters. Most of the characters are obnoxious & lead very shallow lives, I didn’t like them as people & I wouldn’t want to know them.
I should have read more listeners’ reviews on the Audible site; I hope I’ve learned my lesson.
Don’t waste your listening credit, your money, or your time.

Historia
Six months ago, Lucas Davenport tackled his first case as a statewide troubleshooter, and he thought that one was plenty strange enough. But that was before the Russian got killed. On the shore of Lake Superior, a man named Vladimir Oleshev is found shot dead, three holes in his head and heart, and though nobody knows why he was killed, everybody - the local cops, the FBI, and the Russians themselves - has a theory. And when it turns out he had very high government connections, that's when it hits the fan.

Best Davenport mystery yet!
Very imaginative. I kept wondering where he obtained all the Communists relocation information.
But, no one was ever charged with the “street lady’s” garroting - felt that was a loose end.

Historic England & Jamestown
Revisado: 03-17-20
Based on the (real person) gardener, his experiences as gardener to King Charles I, his wife, his trips to Colonial Virginia and the English Civil War.
1) cover is mostly of North Carolina & only includes the Jamestown area at the top of the design.
2) I found his experiences depressing.

Extremely good . . .
Revisado: 10-16-18
. . . An excellent narrative of a young girl’s life on a prairie and as she grows - out West. She travels to try to find her brother and her experiences along the way as she must become a person of deceit.
The reader has the perfect voice and accent to narrate her life.
I would recommend this to anyone.
