Historia
The celebrated 2010 HBO miniseries The Pacific, winner of eight Emmy Awards, was based on two classic books about the War in the Pacific, Helmet for My Pillow and With The Old Breed. Audible Studios, in partnership with Playtone, the production company co-owned by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, and creator of the award-winning HBO series Band of Brothers, John Adams, and The Pacific, as well as the HBO movie Game Change, has created new recordings of these memoirs, narrated by the stars of the miniseries.

I felt honored he wrote this for citizens to read.
Revisado: 09-29-21
Because of this story I now understand the soldiers mind better than I ever have in my 54 years. I have a better understanding of why soldiers in the field do the things they do .... including collecting trophies of the enemy.
though there are some very difficult parts to read..... I love the way the battle stories and events are not sensationalized. There's a reason for telling you every story that he tells you. Eugene explains what he learned from each event be it good or bad.
And it's written in such a way that the civilian population can easily understand it and not get bogged down in unexplained military terminology.
Those of us who have never served in battle have no business criticizing what soldiers do on the field. I'm upset with myself for having gotten angry when I read about some of the things that go on in a battlefield with soldiers and the enemy.. I think how could a soldier possibly do that?
After reading this book I now understand how I could do it. And the fact that someone saved me from having to do it because they have sacrificed their life on my behalf humbles me more than anything else could.
I'm so glad I read this book.I was honored you published it so people like me in the civilian population could read it.
It would be wrong and highly disrespectful for me to say "Now I understand war." I've never served in the military.
But what I will say is I now have a better understanding of the mind of the soldier.... how the experiences they go through in the military shape their mind. how being on the front lines in war changes them mentally.... psychologically.
And I hope you and every other American soldier will forgive me for my stupid ignorance. I'm ignorant no more. thanks to this book.
I thank you for your service from the bottom of my heart. K

A good story with a very surprising ending. The audio version is excellent and easy to listen to .
Revisado: 07-04-17
The main character in this story I did not like her at first because I thought she was mentally weak . But as the story moves along her personality toughens up . By the end of the story I have to admit not only did I find myself cheering her on but I found myself just sitting still and listening to the audio tape so I could visualize what was happening in the action scenes. It was not at all the ending that I expected especially from the way her personality was developed earlier in the story .
Unlike many stories .. .. this story becomes less about whether or not the main character lives or dies but can she accept her destiny and did she learn anything along the way on the road towards death.
I bought the audio version and I love it because it keeps me from having to wear my reading glasses which sometimes give me a headache . The female narrator is exceptionally easy to listen to and she uses various voice inflections to help you understand when there's a character change.
The book has a lot of action so it can be hard to be doing other things while you're listening to it especially as you get towards the end. But overall I definitely recommend the book and it was a very enjoyable read and assisted audiotape.

Historia
Rafe Khatchadorian has enough problems at home without throwing his first year of middle school into the mix. Luckily, he's got an ace plan for the best year ever, if only he can pull it off: With his best friend Leonardo the Silent awarding him points, Rafe tries to break every rule in his school's oppressive Code of Conduct. Chewing gum in class - 5,000 points! Running in the hallway = 10,000 points! Pulling the fire alarm - 50,000 points! But when Rafe's game starts to catch up with him, he'll have to decide if winning is all that matters.

My Middle school class loves this book.
Revisado: 09-05-16
This is the "it" book for the school year 2016. My middle school classes absolutely love it and they're looking forward to seeing the upcoming movie as well. I thought I would have to twist their arms to go out and purchase the book and I have not had to do that. In fact most of them already had it and read it during the summer.
