Story is very disjointed
Revisado: 12-08-22
This is a hard book to follow when listening. You have to really pay attention. And I don’t want to put that much work in a deeply unpleasant story.

Historia
Elmwood Springs, Missouri, is a small town like any other, but something strange is happening out at the cemetery. Still Meadows, as it's called, is anything but still. Funny and profound, this novel in the tradition of Flagg's Can't Wait to Get to Heaven and Thornton Wilder's Our Town deals with universal themes of heaven and earth and everything in between, as Flagg tells a surprising story of life, afterlife, and the mysterious goings-on of ordinary people.

Weirdly Disappointing

I love the idea of this book. But I care more about the pig named Sweet Potato than I do about the main characters of the book. Somehow, they feel like shadow puppets to me.

Suffers without the author as narrator
Revisado: 02-23-20
The previous books have all been read by the author. And they turned out funny. This book, on the other hand, is read by someone who does not get how funny these books are meant to be. And it doesn’t help that this is not the author’s best effort.

In 2005, Kerri Rawson opened the door of her apartment to greet an FBI agent who shared the shocking news that her father had been arrested for murdering 10 people, including two children. That’s also when she first learned that her father was the notorious serial killer known as BTK, a name he’d given himself that described the horrific way he committed his crimes: Bind, torture, kill.

Infomercial for Religion
Revisado: 01-30-19
The subtitle should be “How God is making me feel better about my really screwed up life.” I was really hoping for some thoughtfulness and insight. And obviously this woman has struggled greatly. But this book becomes nothing but a record of all the times that she pleaded with God and got nothing that was really helpful.
The narrator is not bad. But she is reading about magical and childish thinking. So while she does the best that she can, she doesn’t add anything.

Historia
On August 11, 2008, 18-year-old Marie reported that a masked man broke into her apartment near Seattle and raped her. Within days, the police swiftly pivoted and began investigating Marie. Confronted with inconsistencies in her story and the doubts of others, Marie broke down and said her story was a lie - a bid for attention. More than two years later, Colorado detectives pursued a serial rapist who photographed his victims, threatening to release the images online, and whose calculated steps to erase all physical evidence suggested he might be a soldier or a cop.

This book makes it very clear why we should believe women. Even if a story of rape seems off kilter, we should give them the benefit of any doubt.
The book should be required for every police officer. And they should have to pass a test on it.

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Cent can teleport. So can her parents, but they are the only people in the world who can. This is not as great as you might think it would be - sure, you can go shopping in Japan and then have tea in London, but it's hard to keep a secret like that. And there are people, dangerous people, who work for governments and have guns, who want to make you do just this one thing for them. And when you're a teenage girl things get even more complicated. High school. Boys. Global climate change, refugees, and genocide. Orbital mechanics.

A Technical Manual with a Tiny Plot
Revisado: 05-15-18
This book is so boring it kept me awake raging at it. We get it, dude; You did research and know science. But I don’t need to know the exact orbit or how all of the great techno toys are made.
I cannot believe that this is the same author as the first book in the series.

Historia
In the pantheon of serial killers, Belle Gunness stands alone. She was the rarest of female psychopaths, a woman who engaged in wholesale slaughter, partly out of greed but mostly for the sheer joy of it. Between 1902 and 1908, she lured a succession of unsuspecting victims to her Indiana “murder farm". Some were hired hands. Others were well-to-do bachelors. All of them vanished without a trace.

Editor should be fired
Revisado: 04-02-18
More than half of this should have been cut and the interesting bits were glossed over. The author did what all good researchers do - delight in the minutia. This is where good editing comes in.

On a warm Florida evening, Karen Gregory saw a familiar face at her door. What the beautiful young woman could not know was that she was staring into the eyes of her killer - a savage monster who would rape her, stab her to death, and leave her battered body on the floor outside the bedroom. Detectives frantically sifting through the evidence were tormented by one disturbing question after another....
