Heralded as an instant classic of fantasy literature, Maguire has written a wonderfully imaginative retelling of The Wizard of Oz told from the Wicked Witch's point of view. More than just a fairy tale for adults, Wicked is a meditation on the nature of good and evil.

An enjoyable mature epic beginning
Revisado: 12-04-24
For me, the narration was outstanding. I read this book about 20 years ago and enjoyed it very much. Fast forward to today, it was like a whole new experience, listening to the narrator. Because of the release of the movie, this is probably the perfect time for adults to revisit the book or read it for the first time. Be warned, this is not a book for children. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Thanks to everyone who put this book together and presented in such professional manner.

The Narration Wasn’t On Par
Revisado: 11-16-24
I really wanted this to be better. I miss Steven Pacey, and that’s probably the problem. Joe typically writes a really good novel, and I really want to enjoy this. I think that had the narration been more captivating, then this novel and its predecessors would be on par with some of Joe’s later work.

Historia
Bram Stoker’s masterpiece, in which the instantly recognisable Count Dracula plans to sate his dreadful appetites in England only to be thwarted by an intrepid band of friends, remains an enthralling story. Exploring themes of sexuality, religion, technology and good versus evil, and told through journal entries, letters and telegrams, its cultural and literary significance is undisputed.

Shining a light on a war legend
Revisado: 08-16-24
Ben Kane does a fine job of introducing us to a flawed and revered legend who, along with the rest of the medieval aristocracy, treated Europe and the Holy Land as their personal chessboard. The narrator is a pro with both the male and female voices. I look forward to listening to more of their audio collaborations.

Performed in Reverse Order
Revisado: 07-15-24
Robert is always a good story teller. The cast is very good. My main issue is that the audio books are performed in the reverse order. This means that someone just slapped the CD audio books together and posted them for those who don’t know the storyline order. I also feel like Robert has abandoned the series to focus on other things.

A tragic tale of two American legends
Revisado: 06-24-24
This is my second experience with this tale, one reading, one listening. Mr. Ambrose, his family, and colleagues try to give us a glimpse of these almost mythical heroic and flawed legends of the American 19th century frontier. While some of the reviewers may think Ambrose is a fan boy, he really does try to give us the good, the bad, and the ugly of both Crazy Horse and Custer. The narrator has a great Old West type voice which really adds to the aura. Ambrose, as always, is the consummate professional. It’s worth your time.

Historia
The Hunter from the Woods marks the much-anticipated return of Michael Gallatin, the lycanthropic hero of Robert McCammon's classic, The Wolf's Hour. These all-new, interlinked stories offer a full measure of McCammon's trademark narrative excitement, and comprise a fascinating composite portrait of a unique fictional creation. The volume opens with a pair of brief glimpses into Michael's early life in Russia and his initial recruitment into the British Secret Service. It ends with a haunting vision of the werewolf at twilight.

Experience Michael Galantine in a New Way
Revisado: 04-16-24
I’ve been reading and listening to Robert R McCammond’s Galantine series since 1989. This breathes new life into Robert’s version of a superhero-James Bond-like character. The cast and crew have done a great job, and I hope they still get the credit they deserve.

Simon Scarrow Shows Another Side
Revisado: 02-15-24
Mr. Scarrow’s name drew me to this series, and I’m glad he did. Imagine being under the boot of a criminal regime and trying to uphold the law in the beginnings of WW2 Berlin. The protagonist, Criminal Inspector Horst Schenke, does just that while trying to avoid joining the Party. Simon Mattacks, the narrator, sounding so much like the late, great Ray Stevenson, does a stellar job and makes us feel Schenke’s turmoil. I hope Mr. Scarrow writes some more, in between giving us so many more stories about Cato and Macro. Enjoy!

A welcome return to old friends
Revisado: 01-20-24
I appreciate Mr. McCammon giving Matthew’s supporting cast more face time so we can enjoy them just as much as we do Matthew. All the stories are fun with the “The Four Lamplighters” being mainly silly and “Wandering Mary” being more like a traditional Corbett novel. This is a good bridge gap until we get to embrace the ultimate novel in the series.

I listened to the whole series. When Macro makes his debut, it made smile to find him once again as a mentor and a sidekick, circumnavigating the Greek freed men plotting and staying alive. While you’re waiting for Cato and Macro to continue their tag team adventures, indulge yourself and listen to a young Optio Macro story.
