I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out...and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late. But I reassure myself: The Winchesters don’t know who I really am. They don’t know what I’m capable of....

This is a difficult read-full of triggers for some
Revisado: 10-24-24
I almost gave up on this book about a third of the way in; it is predictable in many ways, the plot is ponderous and boring, BUT the climatic plot twist was interesting and the story picked up! The final secret was really not much of a secret…pretty well saw it all coming- except the brutality of the main characters. It was often very agonizing to listen to for me. But I guess I’m just more squeamish than some.
It was somewhat entertaining but overall a very average book.

Tiresome
Revisado: 07-07-24
I thought this was a tedious listen and the story was sappy. I have really enjoyed Nicholas Sparks books previously, but this one was a disappointment.

An enjoyable southern mystery
Revisado: 10-06-23
I enjoyed listening to this book. It made me laugh sometimes because of the southern colloquialisms, but in a good way. Being a southerner, sometimes these southern books are annoying; this one was nice.
I thought the plot was a little thin, and you really didn’t need to figure out whodunnit. But the author’s writing skills were evident throughout the book and did a great job of putting you in the setting.
It reminded me of Sue Grafton’s books, but up-to-date. And that’s a good thing in my opinion.

Historia
Olivia McAfee knows what it feels like to start over. Her picture-perfect life—living in Boston, married to a brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon, raising their beautiful son, Asher—was upended when her husband revealed a darker side. She never imagined that she would end up back in her sleepy New Hampshire hometown, living in the house she grew up in and taking over her father’s beekeeping business. Lily Campanello is familiar with do-overs, too. When she and her mom relocate to Adams, New Hampshire, for her final year of high school, they both hope it will be a fresh start.

Felt like a Twilight Movie
Revisado: 07-27-23
I tried but couldn’t… the book was a concoction of all things trite; the single struggling mothers, the young lives, factoids about beekeeping, a murder “mystery”.
I like all those things, but was just so juvenile. Maybe a better young adult book.

Yeah …the Narrator
Revisado: 06-16-22
I ready lots of comments about how awful the narrator is…and at first it was a struggle. What I came to believe is that the narrator is using the vernacular and intonation of many young women today; my theory is that it will most annoy older listeners and younger listeners less so.
That said (the narrator pronounces that word as “sad” throughout the book!), the book was very good and it was uplifting. The plot is simple; I kept thinking of possibilities that could have been interesting to pursue, but it is very predictable in that aspect.
The character development was very satisfyingly done. Theres not that many so you get to feel like you know them pretty well and to like them. This book lacks a villain- unless its the main characters father.
So if you want a well written, weekend kind of romance that ends predictably, this is it! I must have , because I enjoyed it, but would have really liked the book to be longer and more detailed.

This book is about pleasure. It’s also about pain. Most important, it’s about how to find the delicate balance between the two, and why now more than ever finding balance is essential. We’re living in a time of unprecedented access to high-reward, high-dopamine stimuli: drugs, food, news, gambling, shopping, gaming, texting, sexting, Facebooking, Instagramming, YouTubing, tweeting....

A surprisingly refreshing and enlightening read
Revisado: 05-05-22
I do enjoyed this book- it straightforwardly addresses our world now and the pressures of our online, media flooded existence.
My only regret while reading it is the case study of one of her major patients was that it is about a topic That’s is sexually explicit…I would love to recommend this books to others but that element gives me pause-
HOWEVER don’t let that stop you! It is very good C and could change someone’s life!

A good story with a not so satisfying ending
Revisado: 04-23-21
I won’t spoil it by telling what happens; but will say it is a very difficult to accept conclusion. The story and characters are lovely and I did enjoy it; just felt my intelligence was a bit insulted with the resolution of the plot.

Historia
Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Surêté du Québec and his team of investigators are called in to the scene of a suspicious death in a rural village south of Montreal. Jane Neal, a local fixture in the tiny hamlet of Three Pines, just north of the U.S. border, has been found dead in the woods. The locals are certain it’s a tragic hunting accident and nothing more, but Gamache smells something foul in these remote woods, and is soon certain that Jane Neal died at the hands of someone much more sinister than a careless bowhunter.

Such a good mystery
Revisado: 03-27-21
The characters in this book are well developed; I wished they were my friends... well at least some of them!
I was able to figure out the killer but not their motive!
Also, has thriller aspects! Very much recommend.

A somewhat entertaining but more annoying book
Revisado: 09-09-20
I found this book to be mainly tiring. No character is endearing, especially the protagonist Bruce. Maybe because its because I AM a Southerner; he just made me tired.
It is definitely another suck-up to the male reader effort by Gresham. Im not exactly a feminist, but the very sexist slant he uses toward the females in his books is, again, tiresome. And the plot is plodding.
All that said, I found it a good listen if you need help going to sleep.
