"Everything that is not love, is cowardice"
Revisado: 01-17-20
Flea, you probably will never see this review, but if you do, please know this book touched my soul. Actually, it's went beyond my soul, it touched me somewhere in that special place the groove lives man. I can't relate to all that is you, but I can relate to so much you said. You have so much love man, I hope to project even half the love onto others that you show. I've never written down so many quotes from a book in my life, bookmarked the stuff in the app, saved screen recordings of the audio. Just pulling inspiration from every chapter. You have made me want to be the best version of myself that I can be.
I went on a hell of a ride listening to you tell your story, touching every human sense and emotion along the way. My face was leaking at times listening to you speak about your love and your loss, like I was there when it happened and was just recalling the memory. I also would crack the F up with your one of a kind story telling. Dude, you lived in some wild times!! So glad you survived to tell the tale.
No one else could have possibly been the narrator. Your crazy sound effects, and your emotion; man your emotion, I could feel the pain coming through the speakers and could see the smiles on your face. Absolutely killer job, you went all in because this was special to you, and it shows. You are so much more than that crazy ass dude slapping the groove all around stage.
I have never heard anyone describe music like you did in this book. From how it makes you feel, where it comes from, the source you draw upon, what it looks like to you, to the things you see in it. You describe the groove so colorfully and rich, and the things you were keying in on at such a young age man, such a virtuoso in your own right brother. Such a kind soul, and yea you got the funk too! I will always hear music in a different way now, I may even see it one day like you do.
To see where the soul of the groove in you started, and to hear it firsthand from you to boot; worth way more than this book cost me.
Can't no one rock the groove like you do man. Your'e a momma grizzly bear protecting her cubs, F the world so you can uplift the world.
Fan of the band or the man, or even if you hate music, this book is absolutely a must read. So inspirational and uplifting, you will experience every emotion you know of by the end of this one. I truly am grateful this was written and recorded.
So much love.
Thank You

A basketball legend. A mythical pair of sneakers. A bounty for Jack Palms. What if Michael Jordan played one secret pickup game in summer 1996 to pay off a debt so big it would get him banned from the NBA for life? What if that game was on a private court in Malta, and Jordan’s parting gift was a jewel-encrusted pair of Jordan 11s for the king, a pair of shoes so special and rare that they could be worth millions - if they exist?

Triple OG
Revisado: 09-04-19
I'm from that Jordan era, I grew up watching the man, idolized him. His shoes literally started it all. You don't have a sneakerhead scene without him. I got my first job in high school just to buy his shoes. I see them as works of art. Yellowed soles and the old face boxes attract me. I may do the adulting thing now, but I am a sneakerhead at heart.
Jack, like most of us growing up in the Jordan era, had parents who weren't spending their hard earned money on a pair of Mike's he would outgrow way too soon. Mid-investigation he encounters a closet, full of his child hood favorites retro-ed, now he's got that itch to chase the new shoe box smell with his own hard earned money. What ensues is a paid trip to Hawaii to collect a bond, all while encountering the absolute rarest of air and rekindling that desire for shoes- dude's got it made. Jack Palms still has it, or is it the shoes?
Seth lists countless shoes in this book, and they are all legit, with one being slightly questionable. I found myself naming off the shoes and smiling while he described them, well before he finished with the make and model (I especially appreciate the eloquence used for the bred 11s). I really enjoyed the way the book was written in that the characters weren't all destined for proper English and quaint conversations. It had more of a street scene vibe to the conversations and language, and I know people who absolutely fit some of these characters perfect (excluding the meth bros lol), well played.
I'm unfamiliar with the Jack Palms books, and you don't need to be to enjoy this. I mean who isn't interested in a secret game Michael Jordan played in with some one of a kind fire on his feet?! OK, so not everyone; but the story itself really isn't bad. All shoes set aside, it was an enjoyable plot to follow along. There's a few twists along the way, just enough to keep you wondering how it will turn out. I'm not always a fan of the authors who narrate, but Seth did excellent in my opinion on both. The timelines used in the story are accurate, e.g. the shoes Mike wore in the game were the newest pair at that point in time. You get a little glimpse into today's world of sneakerheads who are absolutely wild over shoes. Any fan of a quick open/shut case would like this book.

Nearly 200 miles inland, they come across the remains of a monstrous ship, far bigger than anything the British Navy had ever constructed. Through basic communication achieved with the natives, they learned that the ship had been there for a very long time...Maybe 1,000 years?

I have absolutely fallen in love with this series! There’s just enough there to keep you guessing while still keeping you firmly planted in the story. Plenty of plot twists and shout outs to a variety of ancient lores are found scattered within the story. Sam and Tom come through once again on an epic treasure hunt that takes them to uncharted areas.
Off recommendations in other reviews, I played it on 1.25x speed from the start. I honestly didn’t find the narrator bad and would not have done that on my own accord. I eventually put it back to regular speed as some of it sounded rushed and off a bit. The performance was still fine with me!
The author does a great job with the plot by providing bits and pieces of a backstory to it. You think you know enough to be dangerous, but in reality it turns out you know squat. Sam’s dad always has a surprise in store, and his hands seem to be everywhere. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone. I can’t wait to listen to the rest, so glad this is such a long series too!!

It took me a little while for the book to catch me, once it did I really enjoyed it! I just wasn't sure where the story was going in the beginning, but it starts coming together nicely and takes off quickly with no looking back. To me this is a wild backstory to book 1 of the Bible, Genesis, and boy did it take some thinking outside of the box! The author/narrator did well in both spots! My only real gripe is I would have liked a little more to the ending, it felt somewhat rushed, but overall it was good. I would listen to it again, and would also entertain a sequel!

Revisado: 08-13-19
This was a great start to a series. I absolutely loved it, so much so that I listened to it straight through in one sitting haha! It’s a feel good wizarding story that left me wanting more.
Thorodric discovers new talents both magical and regular that he possesses while undertaking his new job. Turns out he is quite the sleuth, and his magical powers are not to be regarded lightly either. Follow along as he tries to solve a murder and give half wizards a new light on their kind.
The narrator did a nice job, they make or break an audio book for me. I’ll be looking for book 2 no question!

This is the first book in the series Purple Mist - sci-fi/horror novelette trilogies written specifically for audiobooks and e-books, and for binge listening. You'll enjoy a spine tingling, Outer Limits feeling, and a quicker dramatic payoff than with standard-sized novels. Each is a third the size of a full-length novel.

This book was exactly as described. I listened to the three short stories while working at the computer. They were easy to follow, enjoyable, and you quickly gained closure. It was easy to multitask while listening without getting lost. The narrator did a fine job of conveying the story. I’ll be looking for volume 2, highly recommended to combat sitting in silence.

Revisado: 08-08-19
This was just a relaxing and fun story, the author paints some great scenes to sit back and immerse yourself in. He gives great details even on the tiniest things of no real importance. I enjoyed coming along on the journey to complete the trials, and really liked the details of the travels themselves. They didn't just arrive at the next destination with the start of a chapter, you trudged along with them in kayaks, on foot, or via vehicle. While I'm unfamiliar with the Hawaiian and Japanese lore that was encountered, the author does a good job of keeping you in the loop, it was very interesting. The extra bits of magical sci-fi fit in great. I have listened to Steve Carlson before, and he knocked it out of the park once again.

Then he did everything for the FBI from undercover work to running the hostage rescue team. Now that he works with a small counter-terrorism unit, apparently, he’s been shelved. Some say he’s burned out. Others say that he’s the nuclear weapon, to be brought out only for very special occasions. Hasan Bucheri has been a terrorist all his adult life. In Your Face Espionage
Revisado: 08-07-19
This book is fast paced with a new plot twist on every other page. It will keep you on edge until the end. I enjoyed the perspective you get from the "bad guy's" point of view; usually these are all about the hero, and the bad guys just do their usual routine. This plot was well thought out as Bucheri demonstrates that he is an absolute mastermind of planning, and a pro at being a terrorist. Harley, a grizzled veteran with years of experience in both the field and behind the scenes, gets launched from his office back into the lead role. His experience combined with his accept no excuses and put the mission above all else attitude, is just what is needed for Boston to stay above ground. What a ride you take on this story, all while thinking in the back of your head that this could really happen in a city near you.
Tim and Eric both did excellent in reading and writing. I would recommend giving this a try, it's a non-pause of an audiobook (I suppose that's the equivalent to a page turner ha!) that will keep you eagerly listening to see how the story unfolds. I was so hooked, I finished the book at the gym, which is usually reserved for music only.

An Excellent Find
Revisado: 08-01-19
What a story! What a narrator! I'll start by saying Karl Jenkinson easily just became one of my favorite narrators! Just an astonishing job with all the different and unique voices he uses for the characters, great inflection, easy on the ears, holds your attention, audio is crisp and clear, just excellent quality work. He masterfully paints the picture Colin has written so well for us; overall 10/10.
I loved the story line and the setting, 10/10 on it as well. The author does an amazing job of going into details. I really feel like I just finished the movie, the visuals he enables you to draw upon are just that great. I loved how he thought out the details of the magic acts and even went into explaining how some of the tricks work. The steampunk devices and gadgets he came up with are great as well, I'd like two pair of the goggles please! Any fan of magical mysteries should give this a go, any fan of steam punk should do the same. Shoot, anyone looking for a book to fill the void of silence should get it. I'm so glad it says book 1, that means book 2 at minimum to me.

Historia
In 1946 the United States Navy conducted Operation Highjump, an expedition to evaluate the effect of extreme Antarctic cold on US equipment. However, their true purpose remains shrouded in mystery. Were the reports of Nazi activity on the Southern Continent accurate? After engaging unknown forces in aerial combat, weather forced the Navy to abandon operations. Undeterred, the US returned every Antarctic summer until escalating tensions in Southeast Asia forced the government to secretly detonate three nuclear warheads.

No guts no glory
Revisado: 07-26-19
I'll start by saying I'm no good with history, while I do know how several historical events panned out, the details always get lost upon me. I had no idea operation high jump is a real thing until doing some research, so I had no preconceived thoughts on how this should go. This is the author's remix on a real event, so don't expect it to be a true and accurate historical record of events.
That being said, war is ugly and the author does an excellent job of not sugarcoating that fact. There are some gruesome and gory parts but we are talking Nazis, weapons of mass destruction, more Nazis and...Aliens?! The timestamps on the chapters helped me keep track of whether the story was currently taking place in the past or present sometimes, as the author does jump back and forth a bit. It's not hard to follow along though, honestly it's a very well thought out and written story. I really enjoyed the sci-fi aspects, they are what make this story. I did feel as the author left me longing for closure in the ending, but this does leave room for a sequel though. I had no gripes with the narrator, he did a fine job. History is not really in my wheelhouse, but I really enjoyed this listen! I am going to expand my horizons and look for some other historical fiction to dive into moving forward.
