Historia
The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

Tansfixed
Revisado: 02-27-15
I love this story and the way the author put it all together. I was immersed from the beginning and when I realized I had but 30 minutes to go, I kept driving to hear the end. Well worth it.

I read 3/4 of the book and then deleted it. Took forever to get to the point and then it just didn't hold my interest. Loved the references in Venice but I don't see this author's draw.

Historia
Opening in the settlement of Long Grass, Texas - not quite in Kansas, and nearly New Mexico - we encounter the taciturn Wyatt, whiling away his time in between bottles, and the dentist-turned-gunslinger Doc, more adept at poker than extracting teeth. Now hailed as heroes for their days of subduing drunks in Abilene and Dodge - more often with a mean look than a pistol - Wyatt and Doc are living out the last days of a way of life that is passing into history, two men never more aware of the growing distance between their lives and their legends.

Not sure why he used real characters in history. This story could have been about anyone in the old west. Story a little short. I wanted more....

From the celebrated author of The Secret Life of Bees, a magnificent novel about two unforgettable American women. Writing at the height of her narrative and imaginative gifts, Sue Monk Kidd presents a masterpiece of hope, daring, the quest for freedom, and the desire to have a voice in the world - and it is now the newest Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 selection. Hetty “Handful” Grimke, an urban slave in early nineteenth century Charleston, yearns for life beyond the suffocating walls that enclose her within the wealthy Grimke household. The Grimke’s daughter, Sarah, has known from an early age she is meant to do something large in the world, but she is hemmed in by the limits imposed on women.

Historia
The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

Way too long, with little to intrigue me
Revisado: 01-30-14
This story goes on too long. I became bored many times. I don't like most of the characters in the story including Theo. His depravity starts out early and continues and escalades through out the book. He lives in a very seedy world, by choice. Initially I had much sympathy for him as a child abandoned by his father and then losing his mother in an accident BUT that didn't last long. I don't enjoy reading about adventures that take me down a drug lined corrupt life. And again, this story went on way too long with little redeeming virtues. Not at all what I was led to think this book was all about. I am at hour 25 of 32 and have decided I am wasting my time. I never quit a book but this one I cannot abide.

Stop Being So Sadistic & Brutal
Revisado: 04-10-13
I found this story line disjointed. I didn't really care about most of the characters. I wish Patterson and his Crew would stop being so graphic, sadistic and brutal. Skip this Patterson too. For all the praise he gives the Berliners in the Epilog, I felt the story lacking in German influence. It could have taken place anywhere.
