One of my dad’s favorite jokes about getting older was: “I went out for coffee when I was twenty-one and when I got back I was fifty-eight!” I get what he meant now. Time flies. My first book, If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a "B" Movie Actor, was published back in 2001 and it chronicles the adventures of a “mid-grade, kind of hammy actor" (my words), cutting his teeth on exploitation movies far removed from mainstream Hollywood. This next book, an “Act II” if you will, could be considered my “maturing years” in show business, when I began to say “no” more often and gravitated toward self-generated material. Taking stock in the overall quality of my life, I fled Los Angeles and moved to a remote part of Oregon to renew, regroup and reload. If that sounds tame, the journey from Evil Dead to Spider-Man to Burn Notice was long, with plenty of adventures/mishaps along the way. I never pictured myself hovering above Baghdad in a Blackhawk helicopter, facing a pack of wild dogs in Bulgaria, or playing an aging Elvis Presley with cancer on his penis - how can you predict this stuff? The sheer lunacy of show business is part of the fun for me and I hope you'll come along for the ride.

Oh, and Kane, can’t WAIT for you and Steve to choke me at the same time again like you did when I spent the afternoon with you at your table in Worcester MA’s Rock & Shock 11 years ago! Thank you for that day. It’s amazing when you can meet a teenage crush in your 30’s and find that he’s just as badass, dead sexy, and 100% gentleman, as you always hoped. Thanks for being awesome and not some conceited ass or lecherous douche. You and Steve were just funny, kind, and cool to hang out with. ❤️❤️❤️

I absolutely loved this. An intelligent insight from a man that was so much more than “Leatherface”. I love that the simplicity of the storytelling was a perfect compliment to the complexity of the subject matter. It beautifully mirrored The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in that way.
Rest in peace Gunnar. You earned it.

A very pleasant surprise! Shame on me!

After seeing Andy Biersack on Worst Firsts with Brittany Furlan Lee, I was curious to get this book. I was pleasantly surprised that it was not the, seemingly fashionable, “horror story tell-all” that so many musicians are writing.
This is a boy’s story to becoming a man without ever giving up on himself and his goals. It’s inspiring. Especially to someone who was also an only child with a desire to be recognized, for good or bad, who grew into an adult with insecurities and anxiety. Not that one would EVER allow others to see or know that! 🙄. I too self medicated. Was wasteful in that I had SO many moments that I should have reveled in rather than brooding over what wasn’t how I had imagined it.
For someone 15 yrs younger than I, you nailed my mindset and resulting reactions in a near mirrored way. I was never in a band, nor did I aspire to be, but I had many of the same heroes you did.
Andy is, as he states, an old soul.
I relate.
Thank you for the self introspection reignited by your own.
I look forward to hearing about your next 30 years.
