Historia
Nate and Kaley Klemp were both successful in their careers, consulting for high-powered companies around the world. Their work as mindfulness and leadership experts, however, often fell to the wayside when they came home in the evening, only to end up fighting about fairness in their marriage. They believed in a model where each partner contributed equally and fairness ruled, but, in reality, they were finding that balance near impossible to achieve. From this frustration, they developed the idea of the 80/80 marriage, a new model for balancing career, family, and love.

Great summer listen
Revisado: 09-22-20
Great story and could not stop listening till it was done. The story highlights a dark period in US history, and one that I did not know about. While being somewhat formulaic, the authors characters are so well written that I was engrossed from the first chapter. I am a huge fan of Emily Woo Zeller and listen to just about anything she narrates. I hope that she is invited to read many more books.

Historia
James A. Michener's masterly chronicle of South Africa is an epic tale of adventurers, scoundrels, and ministers, the best and worst of two continents, who carve an empire out of a vast wilderness. From the Java-born Van Doorn family tree springs two great branches: one nurtures lush vineyards, the other settles the interior to become the first Trekboers and Afrikaners.

Amazing story, narrator is horrible
Revisado: 11-06-15
I am a huge fan of Michener. I read all his books as a young person and love his writing style and the historical sweep of his novels. For years I searched on Audible hopeful that the books would appear in an audio version. I could hardly contain my excitement when they began to appear. However, I think this will be the last book I download. The narrators reading style sounds like he is reading a book aloud at the library to a group on a Saturday afternoon. His voice is flat and unimaginative. The worst part is that he did absolutely no research on the correct pronunciation of common South African words. His butchering of the Afrikaans language is grating on the ears and completely destroys the narrative for me. I am so sad that this authors amazing work was put in the hands of this narrator.

Historia
It's been three months since Amy escaped New Hope. Since she's seen Baby, or Kay, or Rice. And she's been surviving on her own, like she did before she was "rescued" and taken to what she thought was a safe haven. Then, in the midst of foraging for supplies, her former fellow Guardian's voice rings out in her earpiece. And in a desperate tone, Kay utters the four words Amy had hoped she would never hear: Dr. Reynolds has Baby.

Thriller? Depends on how you look at it
Revisado: 06-10-14
I am not sure that I would describe this book as a thriller in the traditional sense, however I started listening to this book on Friday evening and could not put it down. This is one of those rare books where I just had to keep going to see how it turned out.
The subject matter is risky, especially considering that this is Mr. Burton's first novel. He walks a tightrope that at times seems to teeter on the brink of going too far in one direction or another risking offending the deeply religious or the deeply agnostic yet somehow it all worked for me.
Is some suspension of disbelief required in reading this book? Absolutely, but then again if you are fond of stories of vampires, warlocks and witches, this should not be too difficult for most readers to do.
In the end the book succeeded for me on all levels. I liked the message the author delivered in the end, I characters were believable and well thought out, and the story moved at a clip that kept me engaged until the very end.
Julia Whelan is a master narrator. I loved her voice and she managed to convey something of the characters of the book with few exceptions. I think she may quickly become one of my favorites and I plan to seek out other books she reads.

The first book in a beloved series
Revisado: 05-05-14
Alexander McCall Smith delivers exactly what I hoped for in this series. I own almost all of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series. These books bring me the kind of joy that I used to feel in watching Ms. Marple of TV many years ago. His style captures the audience without having to rely on real violence or crime scenes drenched in blood and gore. This is good old fashioned detective work using powers of deduction and reasoning.
The lead character in the books lives life at a slower pace, and she observes the world around her from a solid grounding in traditional culture and values that hark back to a different era. The writing style invokes feelings of nostalgia for a time that is no more. Mr. McCall Smith has a comic style that left me laughing out loud and times. Whenever I listen to a book in this series it leaves me with a warm feeling.

Accompanied by his guide and faithful friend, Prabaker, Lin searches for love and meaning while running a clinic in one of the city's poorest slums and serving his apprenticeship in the dark arts of the Bombay mafia. This is a book that is an ideal spend of a credit!
Revisado: 05-05-14
What a tremendous listen this is. Mr. Roberts' book is an absolutely fascinating adventure into the the hidden worlds of India. In addition, Humphrey Bowers' narration of this book is one of the best narrations I have heard to date.
I know that this book looks like it is a major time investment, but rest assured that it will be worth every minute. The story is epic in nature and yet I did not find my mind wondering for even one minute. The author and narrator are a match made in heaven. Roberts writes characters that are so interesting and well rounded that you feel like you get to know them as old friends. Bower brings them to life with his wonderful reading style and brilliant accents and voices. I first listened to this book in the Spring of last year and then again when my partner and I took a long road trip. The book was every bit as good on the second listen and the miles seemed to drift by as we were transported to the slums of India.
I highly recommend this as an addition to your library.

Great start to a fun series - I want more
Revisado: 05-05-14
I was having a tough week, and this was exactly the book I needed as an escape. Abby Cooper is a really fun character and Elizabeth Michaels captures her perfectly with her narration. Abby is far from perfect and sometimes the things she does are just plain frustrating. She is quick to jump to the wrong conclusions and that often complicates her life. I found myself wanting to reach into my media player to give Abby a good slap in the hopes of knocking some sense into her, then I remembered that I was listening to a book and found myself back in the real world.
The great thing about Ms. Laurie's writing style is her ability to transport you into the world of Abbey Cooper. I found myself willingly suspending my disbelief and fully engrossed in the storyline. I could not stop listening and wanted to hear what would happen next. Ms Laurie's writing style keeps things moving at a good pace and is highly engaging. I kept finding myself extending my listening session by just a few more minutes. My only regret was that I was so drawn in that by the end of the weekend I had reached the conclusion. Looking forward to the next one!

In the fall of 2007, the 20-year-old college coed left Seattle to study abroad in Italy, but her life was shattered when her roommate was murdered in their apartment. After a controversial trial, Amanda was convicted and imprisoned. But in 2011, an appeals court overturned the decision and vacated the murder charge. Free at last, she returned home to the U.S., where she has remained silent, until now.

Have been waiting a long time - worth the wait
Revisado: 05-31-13
Having followed the Amanda Knox case, read many articles and the book "Murder in Italy", I was very pleased to see that she had finally published her memoir. It is even more gratifying to see that Amanda decided to read the book in her own voice rather than having someone else read. The book reads like a "who-done-it?" with never ending twists and turns as the investigation and trial unfold. The listener is likely to know the outcome before they begin, but it does not make the book any less interesting. I for one could not stop listening. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has any interest in the truth behind what happened in this case.
