Historia
Faithfully nursing her ill father for five years has derailed Marion Warren’s plans for further education. When no will is found after their father’s death, her brother Tom decides to sell their family home in the city and move his young family to a Vermont farm. Naturally, Marion will always have a home with them—where she can help with housework and the children’s schooling. Marion’s dream of taking classes and enjoying the city’s cultural offerings evaporates until, armed with only her faith, a meager purse and a quaking heart, she dares to make other plans.

There is Great Reward for Faithfulness
Revisado: 01-23-25
This is a romantic story of a sincere, humble, and selfless young woman. Her beloved father dies, and the family does everything possible to strip her of her intended (significant) inheritance. Even though her brother is generally good-hearted, they ruthlessly succeed!
Her response is to steadily go the way of self-sacrifice, even to fulfill the desires God has placed in her heart. She is further humiliated in public settings, even as the plan the Lord has for her unfolds as beautifully as a crimson rose.
This is a book I keep going back to.

Unpredictable Coming-of-Age Story
Revisado: 12-31-24
This sweetly told (but-not-so-sweet) story is useful as an instruction book demonstrating the difference between skin-deep religion and being transformed by Christ. I loved that I couldn’t see anything coming except that one relationship in which love clearly seen (at least to me) was one-sided. The ending does not disappoint, in spite of a sad twist.

Historia
Immediately after the death of the aunt who raised her, Joyce Radway's cousins treat her like a servant. They even attempt to block her from taking exams to qualify as a teacher and earn her own living. Angered by their constant demands, she impulsively grabs her hat and purse and runs to her aunt's grave to weep and rest. But she's not alone; thieves are using the cemetery to hide stolen goods, and she's heartsick to discover their leader is a man she once knew and admired.

A Christian Cinderella Story
Revisado: 09-27-24
Not Under the Law can be enjoyed as a charming example of a Christian walk. We go through difficulties and persist in faith during times of persecution. The world comes at us hard and we slave like Cinderella did! In the end, believers always triumph! One of my top ten Grace Livingston Hill books.

Found Treasure is a Pleasure to read and Fills Me With Hope
Revisado: 04-25-24
Is there any hope for loners with social awkwardness? Yes! I love when the true character of Euphemia Martin is proven in an unplanned event. Then a young Christian provides just the right guidance to inspire that transformation that only comes through Christ Jesus.

Principle of Encouragement in All Seasons of Life Proven Here
Revisado: 10-22-23
These truths kind of sum up this wonderful book, Ariel Custer: Life sometimes seems unbearably difficult. People who give and love and do rightly are often unfairly trampled for long terms of suffering. But always, for the believer, the faithfulness of God proves rock steady every single time. He restores, in the end, and gives incredulous joy that outshines all past times of darkness. Putting our hope and trust in God and his faithfulness never disappoints.

Historia
A misleading want ad induces lovely and innocent Rachel Rainsford to board a train to find work in another state. She doesn't know that she speeds toward darkest disaster because the man who "hired" her is actually intending to sell her to another man for his pleasure. A lucky encounter brought Chan Prescott to intervene—and it was well that he did.

A Rollicking Love Story
Revisado: 10-16-23
It takes all kinds! A departure from story “formula,” this novel is about love blossoming in the midst of the most evil kinds of criminals. The characters have the right stuff to survive one terrifying development after another. In the end, a stealthy but clear message about the necessity for God the Father, the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit shines through.

Historia
This book has all the makings of a fairy tale. The lovely orphaned girl, Phoebe Deane, lives with her kind but ineffectual half-brother but is treated like an unpaid servant by his shrewish wife. A crude widower with a houseful of children is determined to have her. He repulses her but her sister-in-law helps with the scheme to get her in his clutches. Phoebe is in despair and would prefer death to living with a tyrant. Along comes a fairy godmother full of sympathy and plans to help her - and a handsome stranger....

The reader sweetens the heavy darkness of the tale
Revisado: 10-10-23
This is a story about a sweet orphan girl named Phoebe Dean who has a very hard life! She lives with a sweet half brother, but his wife is a perfect depiction of heartlessness “in the shape of a woman.” Her sharp tongue stings Phoebe’s daily life unceasingly, like a swarm of murder hornets! If that isn’t bad enough, the widower next door, who was a monster of a husband before, sets his sights unrelentingly on Phoebe, though she makes it perfectly clear she would not marry him if he were the last man on earth. Thankfully, early in the story, a good guy enters her life and also a good friend named Miranda and everything works out just as our good Lord above would have it. I enjoyed it more with this reader, because previously it was too much darkness for me but she reads really well and brings out the good points.

Great recording that uplifted the story
Revisado: 07-08-23
I read this book before listening to it, and the setting of the story was so dingy that I wasn’t sure I wanted to revisit it. Glad I did! This recording of The Daily Rate adds lightness to the heaviness of the dark times—many people lived in disturbing circumstances. But the story itself is remarkable because it shows that ministry begins at home and opportunities surround us. A lovely book. I highly recommend it.

A Favorite by GLH
Revisado: 05-24-23
The Tryst, to me, stands apart uniquely from Grace Livingston Hill‘s other books. What I love about it most is there is a real seeking of God by a main character. Also, it is a beautiful story of redemption and love. I highly recommend it!

A Classic Story Anyone Would Love
Revisado: 05-22-23
The Obsession of Victoria Gracen is a perfect story that demonstrates the beauty and power of a true Christian life—something that is rarely witnessed. Some are scandalized that the lady dares to share her home and her life with boys who have bad reputations. The bad guy in this story, though, is a churchgoing gossip. (This book should be at least as well known as Pollyanna.) I highly recommend this book, which is a completely different kind of love story.
