Historia
Almost 40 years since its original publication, Drawing Down the Moon continues to be the only detailed history of the burgeoning but still widely misunderstood Neo-Pagan subculture. Margot Adler attended ritual gatherings and interviewed a diverse, colorful gallery of people across the United States, people who find inspiration in ancient deities, nature, myth, even science fiction. In this revised edition, Adler takes a fascinating and honest look at the religious experiences, beliefs, and lifestyles of modern America's Pagan groups.

The pagan experience
Revisado: 12-29-21
This is the perfect book for anyone who is curious about pagans, paganism, or wants to understand the worldview and mindset of a pagan in your life. I have been a practicing pagan for a while now and struggle sometimes to articulate to people in my life what exactly it means to be pagan. Margot Adler beautifully and skillfully explores various pagan perceptions and practices in such a manner that at times I felt myself wanting to joyfully shriek yes, yes this woman gets us! This is who we are! So now if I ever end up in a serious conversation with someone about my faith and see that they are genuinely curious, I will definitely direct them to this book. In fact I consider this a must read even for pagans as it can help us to more concretely think about what stripe of pagan we are and what we personally believe as no two pagans will ever share the exact same path. Please don’t pass this one up!!!

Historia
For forty years, Colony 3245.12 has been Ofelia’s home. On this planet far away in space and time from the world of her youth, she has lived and loved, weathered the death of her husband, raised her one surviving child, lovingly tended her garden, and grown placidly old. And it is here that she fully expects to finish out her days - until the shifting corporate fortunes of the Sims Bancorp Company dictates that Colony 3245.12 is to be disbanded, its residents shipped off, deep in cryo-sleep, to somewhere new and strange and not of their choosing.

Fantastic!
Revisado: 07-24-19
For once we have a protagonist in science fiction who isn’t some young scientist, soldier or scoundrel, but rather an elderly woman sick of living in the cage of societal restraint who endeavors to live her best life in solitude. Ophelia is a no nonsense woman who becomes our reluctant hero and easily the most respectable (human) character. She’s no genius with a fancy degree or skill, but an average Jane who in looking to just get on with her crocheting ends up being exactly the person needed to solve the problems associated with this first contact tale. A great listen for someone looking for a different hero.

Historia
In the opening pages of Jamie Ford's stunning debut, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, Henry Lee comes upon a crowd gathered outside the Panama Hotel, once the gateway to Seattle's Japantown. It has been boarded up for decades, but now the new owner has made an incredible discovery: the belongings of Japanese families, left when they were rounded up and sent to internment camps during World War II. As Henry looks on, the owner opens a Japanese parasol.

An excellent read
Revisado: 04-21-18
I’m a high school history teacher and it can be difficult to communicate the impact major historical events had on the people living at the time and how those consequences reverberate today (assuming you can get them to give history a chance in the first place. But I’ve found that incorporating historical fiction can help the otherwise uninterested engage in the material. The story and characters help form an emotional connection and imbue a sense of life and reality to supplement dry history lectures. This is one I will definitely use in the classroom!

A Modern Day American Tale
Revisado: 02-22-18
I was hooked from the beginning. Mr. Khan tells the story of humble beginnings as a child of farmers to an American lawyer. The love story between him and his wife feels like a fairy tale in the best possible way. It is an honest account of parenthood, the emotional struggles of separation, and the long road pursuing the dream, peppered with twists, turns and chance encounters that all culminated in the creation of a true American family. Excellent read not to be missed. The Khans have more than earned their right to be called Americans and by the end, natural born Americans like myself are left wondering, what have I done to serve my country? What can I do? And then, we resolve to do it.

A must read
Revisado: 11-09-17
This ought to be required reading. Too quickly we jump to violent action without considering who we catch in the crossfire. If children are deemed an appropriate price to pay for our squabbles, something is deeply wrong.

How far would you go to find a missing loved one? Would you send out flyers, appear on TV shows, or ask some of your connections to assist you? Let's change the question: What would you want your loved ones to do in case it was you who went missing? Would you encourage them to fight and find you at all costs? Don't waste your time
Revisado: 05-07-17
Unless you are completely new to looking into missing people, don't waste your time. You can find all this info on any blog or website or hear it in any free podcast. Feels like it was written by your run of the mill blogger. Narrator was good though.
